Jack Kohnen committed to Iowa State!!!

So, not to be a downer, but Williams alluded to some potential issues in this class on the pod a couple weeks ago. Many assumed it was Harrington. Has this been rectified and all is well, or do we still expect some movement some where?
IDK, but there's a lot of speculation in that comment. Harrington is Wiscy based but not tied to these brothers AFAIK

Back in my day it was just Niang getting free drinks at Paddys and Scotty having fun at Sips.

Actually he got one good look at Carver Hawkeye Arena and he offered to pay TJ to come here

(I don’t know the answer to your question though)
Big advantage for TOE they can run an intramural game out in the spring and say the energy is just like a conference game in February.

I think that good defense can be taught, but we have seen ISU's offense struggle at times. We are gonna have a lot of offensive fire power in a couple years. If the young centers develop into solid rebounders and defenders then watch out!

It helps that TJ for the most part recruits players who have already shown they are committed to playing defense and have shown the ability to do so.

And any player worth coming here is going to know they won't see the floor if they don't play Def - we have had 5 years of ISU defense plastered over MBB coverage.

Not sure what any of this means? Harrington is from Iowa, plays for North Scott. Tied to what brothers?

This young man was very highly recruited, but he chose not to have the typical huge announcement ceremony where he holds everyone in suspense. I like that.
That and choosing to play for a coach in TJ who demands maximum effort on defense. I mean, you gotta love this guy already. Fan favorite in the making.

Yes, but Nojus looked athletic as well. Guess I won't get too excited until he's actually in the rotation when Big 12 play starts. I hope he becomes a star at ISU.
Agree...We really could say this about any recruit that commits. Let's see them play in the toughest conference in basketball and then make our assessments.

CJ Burton

Gerrald Henderson was also a big loss at guard. He looked like one of the best players in the Big 22 classic they hosted at Hilton

I thought Ann was a better fit for the pipeline, so the staff must really like Kohnen
I was at the Big 22 classic. Henderson won the slam dunk contest and looked like a stud. I think he ended up at La Tech

Yeah, I was there as well. Didn't Bobby Knight's son put it together? Henderson looked like a really good athletic guard and he ran into clearinghouse issues with grades. Bruton would have been Fizer's PG for the first two years. He was really solid. Got denied because he played with some "pros". Not that he got paid, he just played on their team. How times have changed. We would have had a MUCH better team in 97-98 and 98-99 if those two would have made it to campus.

Regarding expectations, I recognize Biliew was a bust based on his recruiting rating/ranking. What stands out to me is Otz has pretty clearly been willing to pivot his strategy multiple times in just five seasons. After big Rob, he tried opting for even more size and mass in the post. But after it became clear that post players of a certain size can’t do what’s needed in his (and Green’s, and Blount’s) defensive system, he pivoted back to more-mobile bigs

Now, with Toure, Batemon, Bond, Singleton, Davis, and Kohnen, I think you’re seeing yet another pivot to a player profile of the exact athleticism and, more importantly, offensive versatility that some here have complained Iowa State lacks relative to its competitors. No, not every newcomer they bring in will have the career trajectory of Jefferson and Momcilovic. But watch the best college teams and the NBA. If you bring in enough guys that fit that mold, some will hit, and over time your program shouldn’t be far off from those models

The thing that concerns me isn't the guard or wing play. We're swimming in pretty deep waters now. As in, we are shooting for Final Fours. When you get that deep into the tournament, you are going to run into elite size. Tennessee bodied us. Maybe we beat them with Jefferson, maybe not, but we were absolutely not beating Michigan. I guess my concern is if you are playing a team with a front line of 6'9, 7'0, 6'10 and your front line is 6'6, 6'10, 6'7, that's a problem. Tough situation to be in, because we need guys that are mobile enough to switch, bring the double, retreat to stop the lob. And big guys that can do those things are few and far between...especially guys that have some offensive skill.
