Chris Williams & Brent Blum analyze why Jack Kohnen’s commitment to Iowa State this weekend was so massive. The Cyclones now have the top-ranked class in the country. Jimmy Rogers had a big weekend on the trail too. Plus, the Big 12 is in a horrible spot with this Texas Tech situation. All courtesy of Mechdyne.

Good discussion for anyone desperate for BB talk in the summer

We are trying to find value in going heavier on high school guys than many power conference programs will.

They didn’t bring it up, but how the looming 5th year of eligibility is going to replicate the Covid increase in supply. Programs that rely on high school will become even younger

This was my hunch as well. This staff is always looking for "market inefficiencies" for lack of a better term. TBD on if developing classes is even possible in this environment.

One thing that made me extremely happy this year is that we didn’t really “miss” on any freshmen. The last few years a lot of them were determined to not be good enough.

Moving on from Milan early fits this too. As does valuing defense in the portal.

Great to see, as we need a staff that understands money ball.

If Blum is correct that the discount to retain guys rather than go out and buy new ones is 30%, filling the pipeline every year with three or four high 4 stars works, on paper

If we are going to lean into high school more than others, i think we’ll need to play the bench more. Some investment minutes. Defensive can be tough for freshman
