***Jack Trice Stadium/Hilton Coliseum alcohol sales thread***

I briefly read it and missed that part. Doesn't change the fact that they can't get me a popcorn and a bottle of water in a timely fashion. I can't imagine their ability to open 2 beers and take my money will be any better.
I guess I don't expect concession stands to run very efficiently. Sure it could be better but it is what it is.

Keeping people in the stadium to purchase food and drinks at halftime, instead of leaving, and either drinking and eating at their tailgate or spending the money they would spend in the stadium, at new CyTown locations is very much part of the conversation.

Not to mention the lack of butts in the seats after half, but that is not really the issue driving this. Money is. You dont sell goods and services at a venue then let people leave to go get those good somewhere else or bring there own. Besides very few venues of any type still do the reentry thing, you just lose out on sales too much, and you also risk the people deciding they are more comfortable watching it on the TV in their tailgate or in the sports bar in Cytown than actually going back to the stadium. Thus an empty seat on top of the loss in sales.

That is just business 101.
Seems to work for NASCAR where you can bring a cooler of your own food/drinks in and even re-enter at many tracks (Talladega for sure).

Business 101 would have been improving those in stadium concessions long ago to create more revenue this entire fing time which... JP has never done. If they're selling beer out of the normal concession area... oh boy traffic jams!
I mean, changing the rules costs $0. Adding concessions and/or completely redesigning the concourse costs a lot.

You also are not taking into the account that the concourse, concessions, bathrooms have had significant upgrades over the years. Is more needed, probably, but there have been improvements there.

WTF are you even talking about. We are on a thread to discuss alcohol sales in jack Trice. Who said I get the shakes. When the stadium empties at Halftime and people go have drinks do they have the shakes or are they just enjoying a Saturday at the game?

The whole post you just posted sounds like you actually need a THC drink or a beer to calm your emotions down a little bit.
No, i am referring to the idea we need THC to be sold in the stadium, and those that are complaining about not being able to leave the stadium and reenter.

As I said I have never had the need for something so bad be it alcohol, THC, drugs of any kind so bad that I could not handle sitting through a few hours at a venue without needing to get that fix.

Seriously, this is why JP is in such a thankless job, no matter what he does someone is crying.

I am not sure you know the difference between need and want.

I thought they did away with that several years ago. Maybe not, or maybe not everywhere.

Either way, they are leaving a ton of money on the table because of it, at least to a point, being a one off event.

But I assume part of the reasoning there was for a long time it was more difficult to have the infrastructure and equipment in place for enough concessions for a 1 or maybe 2 race venue per year and costs a lot to add that, meaning making a profit above the initial costs is muted.

And because the culture of how it has always been done in Nascar and part of that tradition I would guess is/was part of it as well.

But that being said JTS is probably one of the last stadiums to allow reentry, so its not like we are the only one doing this, and most have added alcohol sales.

I would also say comparing ISU sports venues to Nascar races is a bit of an apple to oranges comparison.

I mean out of all the different types of sports and venues it is nice to know that Nascar is the one place that allows it.... maybe... someplace... possibly.

Yet few if any colleges still allow it. No NFL, MLB, MLS, NBA etc etc. But glad you might get to bring a cooler in to maybe a track or two for a Nascar race.

You should send an email and suggest fans should be able to bring coolers full of beer and food into JTS and Hilton, cuz Nascar. Im sure he would get a good laugh.... I mean I am sure he will consider it.

As my dad always said:

"Wish/Want in one hand, **** in the other, see which one fills up first."

But yeah you are probably right. That being said, if its not a need, its probably not needed.

I’m not of the opinion we should allow coolers so I don’t need to send an email. But feel free to send an email to NASCAR and some of their venues to inform them of business 101.

The 'shaking first at cloud' crowd dumbing this makes me laugh
You do realize the Woodstock Generation is in their mid 70's now right?

Personally, what I was trying to say, is I have no problem with it being legalized, I just dont think we need it sold everywhere and on every corner.

If you want to do it great, if you want to have it everywhere, there are plenty of products that you can carry with you that are discrete and don't cause issues with others. But that doesn't mean you should be able to buy it, and use it in every possible way, anywhere you choose.

I used to smoke, and when they banned smoking in bars and restaurants I thought it was the dumbest thing ever, now 20 years later and after quitting smoking I could not imagine having to sit in a cloud of smoke in the local sports bar with my family. Same goes for not wanting to walk down the street with my kids having to smell pot smoke on every corner, but used to sit and parties and smell it all night and had no problem, but probably cuz I just didnt inhale..... :jimlad:

How much allowance do you make for stuff getting stolen in this scenario? It's well known that self checkout in grocery stores leads to higher losses that partially offset the "savings" of fewer cashiers. Add the fact that you'll have a significant number of college students being asked to pay high prices, and now people will also be more inebriated on average. I'm sure it's faster though.

The digital self order sounds nice. I'm imagining you place your order and pay on your phone, get a number (or maybe a text when it's ready), then go to the window where they have runners handing out orders. Seems like it would be fast. Or they could have little compartments you access by scanning a barcode/QR code. Think like a PO Box, but big enough to hold a cafeteria tray. Keeps anyone from swiping your order off an open shelf. Probably need a time limit so somebody isn't clogging up a box for 10 minutes while they are BSing with people. If your time expires, they pull your order and you have to go to a manned window to get your stuff.

They should also go cashless if they haven't already.
Cashless was 2 yrs ago I think?

With the alcohol education component mentioned in the statement, Ames may need another Data Center to support the servers to deliver this based on how intense the courses are…
