In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

Super random question, back in the late 90s there was a business I think on the corner of Stanton and Chamberlain called RocketChips. Does anyone remember them? Any clue what they actually made? Of course I could be totally misremembering all of these things!

O'Malley McGees and La Fuente, both on Duff, both excellent...

My college roommate did the monster marg challenge. He wasn’t a big drinker and puked from it. Except he didn’t make it to the bathroom and puked right at the table…all over the table. We still joke with him that he’s the reason they stopped offering it.

I will be shocked if the DSM metro gets a Buc-ee's.
They will get one, the only question is when, it makes too much sense not to build one where two major interstates meet. Think of the traffic numbers on I80 and I35 each day, build one halfway along the route maybe down by highway 141 or back to the east. They already have one at Springfield MO, and are building one in Kansas City Kansas, running semis up to DM would not be that far from either one to keep the store supplied.

There's really no where to put one close to 35/80 that could accommodate the land needed for a Buc-ee's. Anything near 141 would be a total disaster.

Looks like there is plenty of land right north of the east mixmasters before you get to Kreg Tool company and back to the east. Another area would be right east of Caseys headquarters, use the use the SE Corporate Woods drive. I just gave the 141 exit because it would hit both 35/80 but there is plenty of space at the east mixmaster where you could build one to the east of 35. Heck the could put one in by the new Costco up north, people will drive out of there way to use it, if its the only one around.

No thank you. I drive that route regularly and don't need the increased traffic for a tourist trap.
