Pollard announces his retirement

Hopefully the new AD looks at JTS capacity. I am no fan of contraction but the people in my row just keep getting fatter (myself included). I spent most of the past two years of games either finding a different seat or sitting in the aisle seat with literally half of my ass unsupported out in the aisle. It is time to reduce the number of seats in a row so people can actually sit in their seats. Eliminating two seats in each full section row would have a measurable effect on total capacity but it would contribute greatly to fan comfort.
You obviously haven't been to many stadiums. All the older ones are much much tighter than the Jack. Try going to a game in Iowa City or Lincoln. You'll love your spacious accomidations after that. If people are crowding your row, get seat backs.

I like many took a 3rd option, gave them my notice a couple of years before I was planning on leaving. I had maxed out my IPERS, so there was little to no point in continuing to teach. No one is saying the Pollard does not have a right to walk away, and retire, I am sure at his salary level is doesn't need the money to continue working. Just find it strange that you spend so much time and effort over the past 5 years to get a project off the drawing board through all the hassles of the BOR and now its finally being built and he leaves before its completed. No health issues, but calls a new conference and out of the blue announces he is retiring.

Also he will stay until June of 2027 OR as soon as a new AD is hired. Do not most AD that are retiring, stick around after the replacement is hired and help them through the transition of power. I noticed that the former president at ISU sure did.
You should stop.

You should stop.
I guess it must not really bother people that one of most important persons at the university just up and retired. I mean this person not only hires and fires the coaches, but charts the path of the athletic program for not only today, but far into the future, but it's ok, stop asking questions.

Why are you describing it as “just up and retired”?

This is hardly out of the blue. JP is archaic, not apt for today’s college athletics. He’s also retirement age.

I'm not sure how it bothers people that a 61 year old millionaire would retire.

Especially in this position during the current era.

What immediate unfinished business is he leaving?

What would be a better time to go?

He did sign a 5 year contract extension last year so there was certainly an element of surprise that it happened now even with the transition from WW to Cook and given that the current chaos existed when that extension was signed.

My only comment is that I keep seeing all these references to retiring "out of the blue". It may have been out of the blue to us fans, but that doesn't mean it was out of the blue to those that really need to know. I find it hard to believe that a man whose job has been dependent on communication for the past 21 years wasn't communicating that this was a possibility.

He will be 62 when he’s done. How old were you when you up and retired?

This is not about me, and I didn't sign a new 5 year contract last year. So why do you keep wanting to bring me and when I retired into the discussion? Listening to the instant reaction pod cast, it makes its sounds that they were hearing rumors that Pollard was getting ready to go, but also they stated something about the interaction with the new president.
In the end it doesn't matter, just strange, sorry for me pointing that out.

Things I liked about JP: Keeping us in the XII during both missiles crisis, Hoiberg Hire, Dresser/Metcalf hires, Matt Campbell, Paul Rhodes both hiring and firing, TJ hire, adding women's wrestling, JTS renovations, new softball/soccer field by Towers, Money Management (prior to NIL), standing up to the bigger XII brands, and most importantly program stability in a world of volatility

Things I dislike or still question about JP: Cael Sanderson leaving, Chizik hire, Prohm (even though that was more Leath), Kevin Jackson's long leash, Booze/fans slobs, I-State logo, the gymnastics program fiasco, CyTown (still don't understand the pro forma projections on how this will work, but blindly hopeful), Jimmy Rogers hiring process, and navigating NIL.

History will be very kind and there is no doubt he has elevated Iowa State
I agree with pretty much all of this.

I'm also skeptical of CyTown. I just don't think Ames is big enough and busy enough to support a Power and Lightesque entertainment area. And, I thought I heard Mary Greeley was going to be an anchor... What does a medical clinic have to do with an entertainment area? I hope it works out and I get to enjoy it someday but I'm not optimistic.

His retirement had been talked about as a possibility for a long time. We have no idea what he told his bosses, you say he just up and quit. He gave nearly a year heads up. This isn’t some huge surprise.

And did the contract say he had to stay at ISU?

I think there's just a bone to pick/grievence type of thing here.

So if it was not a huge surprise by many, than why is this a huge deal in the news? For the general public and many in the media, it sure sounds like it was a surprise.

It means nothing to me, I have no ax to grind here, just seems strange. This is huge announcement for the university, not some average person retiring, but a person that will led the university athletic department for years.

How do you know he "just up and retired"?

He could have had this in the works for a while.

Oh wait he forgot to post on CF 3 years ago that he was planning to retire in the next 3 years and ask CF members for their thoughts on the proper way to do it.

The fact that some non-important people not in the Atheltic Department think he owes them an explanation about why and when he was going to retire is pretty bold of them.
