Worst Steven Spielberg movie

The discussion on Disclosure Day got me to wondering if Steven Spielberg ever made a bad movie. The worst movie I can think of that Spielberg made was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was awful and disrespectful to the three movies in the series that came before it. Another awful Spielberg movie was Always, starring Richard Dryfus as a pilot who was killed and somehow comes back to haunt another pilot who falls in love with Dryfus' girlfriend. Just a terrible plot and a stupid movie.

One of Spielberg's best movies, IMO, is one that rarely gets talked about. Duel, stars Dennis Weaver as a motorist who gets terrorized by an other-worldly semi truck.
I actually kinda liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was nowhere near as good as the original three movies, obviously, but the myth about the crystal skulls has fascinated me for a long time, and I'm very much into aliens.

Never seen Always but based on your description it sounds like it would be good if it's done as a comedy. A dead guy haunting the dude who is now dating his lady sounds hilarious.

I was shocked when Decaprio won best actor. I thought it was just an OK performance. I thought he was much better in Django Unchained, but he was never even nominated for best actor in a supporting role, which was won by Christoph Walsh from the same movie.
DeCaprio is overrated. When I watch him, I feel like I'm watching Leonardo DeCaprio act, opposed to watching the character he's playing. Does that even make sense?

I kind of get that, but there are some in which he is pretty outstanding IMO, a few of those being What's Eating Gilbert Grape, This Boy's Life, One Battle After Another.

My first thought was 1941. It was unanimously panned when it came out. I didn't go because of that. But I've also ready more current opinions that say it's actually pretty good.

I also didn't hate the Crystal Skull Indiana Jones film.

Given the source material I'm just going to assume it's his worst but have no plans to watch it and verify

I hate it, but haven't watched it either. I read the book. It was pure garbage. And people say the book was better than the movie.

Unfortunately, Always is billed as a romantic fantasy and drama. Are there comedic elements? Yes. But its more drama than aything.

One Battle After Another.

I thought Leo's character in that film was at least partially a self-parody.

Middle-aged frumpy loser dad who used to be cool and do awesome things.

Now look at him.

Similar dynamic in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood really.

Nonsense. Temple of Doom is fantastic. Watch it again.

I just watched it recently, less than a year ago and in my opinion, it is so inferior to Raiders and The Last Crusade, I definitely won't be watching ToD again. Now, as I said, I haven't seen any of them since TLC, so if you are a huge fan, maybe ToD isn't that bad.

I know that Indiana Jones movies always have a bit of fantastical/humorous moments, but a lot of ToD was flat out goofy as ****.

I haven't seen them all but of the 'hits' Jurassic Park is the worst imo.

Iconic scenes and tech for the time but after the initial appearances of dinos when they get to the park it's kind of just a campy monster movie.

I would agree with some of the later Jurassic movies but the first one is a great film.

The sequels all know they're goofy and full of plot devices.

The first one acts like it isn't when it absolutely is and is just kind of cheesy for a good portion.

Couldn't disagree more. All the hallmarks of good movie making are there beyond the groundbreaking technology. Great dialogue, characters, pacing, tension, action. Iconic score by John Williams. I still watch it when I see it is on and think it holds up very well.

Meh. While I think it's better than other clunky monster movies, after Dr. Grant listens to the Triceratops it gets pretty clunky for me and as an aside I get really annoyed by a few characters.
