Saw them last night in Chicago. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. They played flawlessly and the new drummer kicked ass.

Toni Iommi was a factory worker and chopped the tips of his fingers off his final day before going full time with Black Sabbath. Made himself a custom glove so he could still play. Had to rewrite his riffs so he could still play them but he credits that a large part of the sound we have today.
She is excellent but nobody is Neil Peart.

Did they open with Limelight? I think that is the band's favorite song. Was there a drum solo? Last time I saw them, Alex was mocking the keyboard sections during Tom Sawyer. That was funny; keyboards don't add much value to their sound IMO. Never understood how that song got to be their most popular song.
Seen them twice on this tour (Dallas and Chicago), and 38 times overall.
Nobody is as good as Neil.... he was one of a kind. That being said, Annika is outstanding and a fine replacement. She would not be with them if Geddy did not approve..... Ged's a control freak, so you know she is more than capable to be included. It remains to be seen if she becomes a permanent member and they choose to release new material. Rush is a band that is a cut above everyone else. Once you see them, it becomes obvious.
Loved their stage production on this tour. Geddy designs most of it and the visuals are terrific. You definitely will want to see it, so go check it out. The set lists have been pretty killer, too.

I’ve seen them 12 times and that was in the top 3 easily! I get it that some are having trouble with Anika. She rocks and is a complete banger behind the drums. They have so much renewed joy on stage. Hoping to catch the show again, if the cards line up

Geddy and Alex and Anika looked so happy to be playing together. It was awesome!
Luckily Neil Peart didn't have that attitude. He was great because he recognized his entire life that there were still things he could learn and sought out other drummers to learn from them. Some were genuinely shocked that this legend was coming to them, asking questions and trying to learn from them.
That is how greatness is made - it isn't born, it is built.
To an extent. Gotta have the drive and attitude but with drumming in particular some people are just different.
I think Rush is one of those bands that is probably better than most people realize, in terms of skill and creativity and just general "quality". But most people don't / can't appreciate to that level so they are just another good band. Sort of like Tool, or Pink Floyd.

I get what you're saying but Tool is just as skilled as Rush. You're right that people don't always realize how far above the rest they are.
Just watch this video and you'll see Danny is just as talented as Neil was.
You are preaching to the choir, by far my favorite band. Tool is another level beyond Rush.
I just think most people can't see the difference, they see the log scale version and don't realize its actually orders of magnitude above and beyond.
I'm not the world's biggest Rush fan, but I cranked "A Farewell to Kings" on a long drive from Central WI back to NEIA this winter and my god does that rip.
