So I have to have a root canal....went in to get a crown, and it turns out the tooth is cracked, and the pulp and nerve have gotten infected. I don't think it's a big deal, but I'm afraid the vixen will suffer greatly. Just those two words together - root canal - cause her to shudder.

I've never understood people fearing a root canal. I've had two. Both times, the pain leading up to them was gawd awful. The procedure alleviates the pain by removing the root.

However, the pain in the wallet is another matter and is very real.

Mrs Cooler worked from home yesterday so she could go to our daughter's cross country meet. She told me she'd keep me updated.

She sent me a text when it started. All good. At the halfway point, she tells me she's in the top 10 and looking good. Then I get nothing for 20 minutes...

It's a 2 mile race and I'm all "Ok, so what's going on?"

10 minutes later, I get a text only saying "DNF". Slight panic sets in.

15 minutes later, I still get no response so I call. Voice mail. Panic is now growing. 5 minutes later, I get "I'll call you in a little bit."

5 very long minutes later, I get a call. She re-injured her hamstring with 1/4 mile to go and could not finish.

The news was certainly not good, but that 45-50 minutes waiting for it was brutal. Don't ever do that to your significant other.

Sit down at work, delete meeting response emails, update a folder so I can work in it, fill water bottle, get call from MrsWx that LilMissWx sliced her finger open and to meet her at the ER. Two hours later get back to work and try to figure out what to work on. Fun morning!

How did she manage to slice her finger?

I think part of it is going to specialists who do these everyday and a general practice dentist who says "We can do that here in my office." I had two done years and years ago but they were by a guy who specialized in just that.

"Yeah, we do root canals. We can also change your oil and take care of your dry cleaning while your here. Have a seat in our waiting room. Oh hey, are you hungry? Our hygienist makes some mean banana pancakes."

My dental insurance will pay for half of both procedures, but adding the cost of the root canal to the cost of the crown does kinda hurt.

I got a smokin cordless drill and can do the next one for half price. That includes the bottle of wine and can of ether to knock you out.

Almost perfect weather today. 82 degrees, reasonable dew point (not humid) and almost no wind. Made for best bike ride of the year. Killed it by my own modest old man standards*. DND.

* Payback for Tuesday when it killed me, dat wind and humidity.

We'll be heading to MN next week........think we're going to do the Arboretum and zoo? Seem like good options? Possibly, possibly do the mall Friday as I think our hosts are working a partial day. Suppose if we're eating out, should figure out options for that too. I've done zero research on this between work and my grad school application due today.
