Iowa State is definitely not an analytical marvel

Iowa State coming in tied for dead last in this correlation of past winners. We do one thing really well and that's hold teams below their normal ppg not much else. We really need to grab rebounds and score some threes if we want to beat LSU.

Another interesting graph from Reddit I just saw:

If we were just a little bit better offensively that would correlate with having a successful tournament.

You could say the same for Iowa only if they were better defensively.

At least we are on the right side of center? So there’s a chance?

Brand new season. I think you can throw all of that analytical bologna out the window. Obviously it depends what Iowa State team shows up.

It's really interesting how we are the mirror opposite of Iowa in this chart.

You could also say that our November/December and Iowa's February/March are kind of the same thing too.

Hopefully this means one more mirror image resulting in an Iowa loss to Richmond with us making an Elite 8.

Well we all knew ISU was a one trick pony but if we get another scorer other than IB and Hunter we are on a completely different level.

I wonder how these metrics would look if we didn't play in a league that was officiated like the Big 12 was this year?

That is really cool. I am surprised it is so balanced.

Good D would seem harder to instill. So if TJ can keep the team focused in that area, we are a couple of offensive studs away from being formidable. Bodes well for the future.

I use something VERY similar. It's very good at identifying paper tigers. Unfortunately, it rarely identifies the actual winner, it narrows down to 2-3 though. Still helps.

I've wondered that, too

If we bring in offensive firepower, is that going to take away from our defense?

If IB and Gabe return next year and we add some offense, we can maybe still be as strong defensively and improve offensively. Not sure
