I don't know, Jaws 3 might be the most ridiculous visual movie in history, and 4 might be the dumbest story ever put to paper in the history of mankind.

The worst Jurassic Park movie looks like a Cormac McCarthy novel compared to the 4th Jaws movie.

Roaring exploding (after being stabbed?) sharks are the best sharks.

To each their own but imo this is quite a stretch.

It was a big deal because of the special effects (which is funny because they couldn't edit out the stage worker's hand in the kitchen scene (pictured)) but after the 'awe' of the entrance into the island/park it turned into a standard monster movie with kind of a loose ending.

2 and 3 weren't that far off and the rest have just been kind of CGI-fests.

Iconic scenes no doubt, though.

I think the movie works on so many levels. You speak to the special effects which were revolutionary at the time and continues to outpace current movies (ahem… Marvel).

It also is an excellent action, adventure movie. The first T-Rex attack and the Raptors hunting the kids in the kitchen are as thrilling action sequences as you’ll find in any film.

It also has an ever-present message on the dangers of advancing technology as well as human intervention in nature. This commentary could apply to a host of current or future situations. The science is also grounded in reality for the science fiction genre.

And the characters are well written and compelling. Ian Malcolm is one of my favorite supporting characters (non main protagonist/anatagonist) in all of film.

Anyway, you can tell I’m a fan.

"This ain't no walk in the park" might challenge Flight Risk's "Y'all need a pilot?" for worst movie tagline in the past year.

There's a good version of such a film in my head that mixes...

Jurassic Park
Predator
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
(or at least the second half of it)

There's a really bad one in there, too, though.

Or someone just made it much easier for the screenwriters of Tropic Thunder II : Jungle Boogaloo

I’ll give it another shot when it’s on streaming somewhere. I didn’t really care for it, it did get a little better but I thought it started off slow. Too be fair I was just really tired going into it, and it was a reminder why I haven’t been to a 3D movie for several years. Just so much of the screen was so blurry and/or out of focus with the 3D.

One preview that was 3D was completely insane though, like really 3D and intense. Kind of cool though. But would not recommend 3D for this Jurassic movie.

Oh yeah, the first one was a really good action movie. I really don't know what they could have done to make it any better. Especially with the effects technology of the day.

I agree, I thought the first reboot was fairly entertaining, and I was interested to see what they could do with the idea with modern CGI. Saw most of the next one - boring and dumb. Caught a few of the third one and couldn't stand it after giving it some time. I actually thought the general premise of a new normal with dinos out in the wild could've been interesting, but that was an awful story.

I'm with you, I didn't like that 2nd world movie but that ending was exciting, and then in 3 they show a couple brief bits of Dinos in the normal world and then immediately go to a "park" again. All that potential wasted so they could tell a story about bugs. And this new movie adds some lore that makes it even worse.

I felt like such a dirty old man when watching her in Lost in Translation. She was so young and so beautiful and so likeable. I could totally relate to Murray's character being attracted to her.

She’s slightly older than me.

Talking about running out of ideas. That story is, what, 2700 years old. /s

I remember watching a version on NBC in the late 90's with Armand Assante.
I love Greek mythology so I'm fine with it but the Odyssey can be long winded at times. I'm very skeptical it can be done as well as Dune for example.

I agree. The odyssey is one of the best stories of all time. What I’m not sure of is how they squeeze all of that into a 2-3 hour movie. Guess I have no idea if they are splitting it into parts.

I do agree that they’re running out of ideas. You’d think even in Greek mythology, there are tons of good stories they could pursue. That said, Covid kind of killed movie going culture. We get maybe 1/3 of the movies we used to. Seems like the studios are hesitant to invest in ones that aren’t a sure thing.

The ease of watching streaming rather than going to a theater has caused limited series to replace movies. Film creators can spend time developing characters and have a story that can be fleshed out in 8 hours rather than 2.

Lord of the Rings would have been a series now rather than cutting 1/3 of the movie to be in the theater.
