Feel like we say this every year and every year an FCS game (SEMO aside) is at least relatively close. We couldn't get off the field against UND last year and that's why we only managed 21 points, albeit we scored those 21 points in quick fashion each time we had the ball.Shouldn't matter, we should absolutely handle USD.
will be interested to see if the new coach can get anything going in year 1....he was pretty good at Drake and I'd imagine with scholarship athletes that should help. Also a renovated UNI-Dome will be awesome tooMVC at 1, 3, 4, 6, and 20. No UNI.
This combined with the fact they have only a week to comeback from playing in Ireland makes me expect a bit of a letdown of a game. I don't expect us to lose, but it will probably be closer than expected.Feel like we say this every year and every year an FCS game (SEMO aside) is at least relatively close. A 42-7 type win would make me happy leading into CyHawk.

Those punching bags don’t come play for cheapHow do we end up playing top notch FCS opponents every damn year? Why can't we schedule these punching bag schools everyone else gets. I would to watch some 66-3 ass kicking where the backups get a ton of reps.
Something CW has expressed multiple times on Cyclone Fanatic/Iowa Everywhere podcasts. This combined with the fact they have only a week to comeback from playing in Ireland makes me expect a bit of a letdown of a game. I don't expect us to lose, but it will probably be closer than expected.

It seems that any schools in the east and south that could become FBS have done so. That has left the MVfC and the Big Sky to rule the roost. Being in the center of the MVfC's region certainly helps travel costs that they would bill us for.How do we end up playing top notch FCS opponents every damn year? Because FCS games are mostly regional. Longer distance = more money. And, it turns out that the best FCS teams are in the upper Midwest.
Which all makes a lot of sense, but can we get Western Illinois on the schedule or something? It seems that any schools in the east and south that could become FBS have done so. Yep. The G5 conferences elsewhere got hit and pulled teams up from FCS that fit geographically. It seems that any schools in the east and south that could become FBS have done so. Plus, the Valley basketball schools aren't completely torching their MBB programs to play Tuesday night football.Yep. The G5 conferences elsewhere got hit and pulled teams up from FCS that fit geographically.
The G5 conferences really don't even have much of a presence out this way, with the closest being the MAC, but it has been largely unaffected by realignment so had no reason to have to pull teams up.
Geez is it really that bad? Looked at the schedule... it really is that bad.Plus, the Valley basketball schools aren't completely torching their MBB programs to play Tuesday night football.
O/U on UNI Football wins this year is 3.5 and I'm really struggling to get to the over, fwiw...
Yep. It's a full rebuild. The new staff is doing all the right things but it's a climb.Geez is it really that bad? Looked at the schedule... it really is that bad.
UNI plays #1, #3, #4, #6, #20, #30 and #41. Translating this to last years' FBS final AP poll would be like playing Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Syracuse, Kansas State, and Texas A&M. @ Wyoming might be one of their more winnable games.
I have no dog in the fight but my UNI buddies who are connected would second this. They really like the staff and are building a culture the right way based on what I hear. Totally and completely different feel than Farley.Yep. It's a full rebuild. The new staff is doing all the right things but it's a climb.
The only for sure Ws on that schedule are Butler and Murray State. Maybe steal Eastern Washington and another. We'll have our answer on this new staff mid-2026.
