Ok, this is nothing more than one of my silly whims. Here it is:

The Iowa Class battleships (all four exist) are the last, most powerful, speediest big gun fighters produced in the world. Think of it, even though all four are museums, today they are the only warships capable on Earth that can speed along with U.S. nuclear carriers in any sea condition. Spectacular.

Talk about engineering. Talk about excellence (Ok, disclaimer, I'm a low level patron of both USS Iowa and USS New Jersey). Three football fields long. There were/are? naval architects who consider them the pinacle of U.S. warship design.

Since Iowa was the first, the four ships (New Jersey, Missouri and Wisconsin, too) are known as the Iowa Class. And now, maybe we have the deepest OL we've had since, well . . . when? Big guns up front on the line.

(Note: I think it's still the case that ISU is the only post-secondary institution in the state that is home to an NROTC program. It was established during WWII.)

BB61 Iowa - Dylan Barrett (he's from Illinois)
BB62 New Jersey - (sniff, no Clone has this number)
BB63 Missouri - Jim Bonifas (Dubuque kid)
BB64 Wisconsin - Sione Perkins (frosh from Idaho; at 6-9, he's BB sized)

Two Iowa Class super battleships were laid down but later cancelled:

BB65 USS Illinois - Garrett Rutledge (an Iowa younster)
BB66 USS Kentucky - Tyler Miller (another 6-9 monster)

The low, sleek profile of Iowa:

Forgive me, I'm old. Just having fun. For a few years I've imagined an Iowa Class battleline up front protecting our QB and blocking for our RBs.

I'm sentimental about these Navy warriors for their contribution in killing one of the greatest threats to human existence, the Japanese Empire.

USS Iowa unlimbering her colossal power in the 1980s:
