50-75 wide mile main snow band. Don't think 8-10" is going to be in the cards but certainly an upper end of 7" in it. Think the center will be around Rochester, MN to Fort Dodge.

Sharp gradients on either side of the band tapering to an inch quickly.

Wind gusting to 35 and a flash freeze will help make this one a little more impactful than 1-7" normally would be.

Daughter is supposed to have a jazz contest in Fort Dodge tomorrow. As of now it is still on because the judges have made it into town already. I am hoping the school errs on the side of caution and doesn't send our kids (from near Ames). Also have semester tests tomorrow.

Move that another 25 miles east so I can go snowmobiling, all my snow melted this week...

Good to know. The contest is being put on by ICCC, so not sure how often they cancel. But hoping our administration is smart enough not to send them in the first place.

Or tell the school, for your child's safety, they will not be attending the jazz contest.

How much ice are we looking at in the Charles City area? Any good guesses?

There likely won't be any areas with accumulating ice/freezing rain...it's just that temps are going to drop so fast you'll get a flash freeze on the roads.

Equivalent of maybe a couple hundredths of an inch max, enough to make it very slick on roads or sidewalks, but not really the kind that's going to be sticking to power lines/trees and causing problems that way.

Frozen puddles/very thin surface ice.

Sounds like a garden variety Grenade Cyclone is on the way. No worries, couple quarts of milk and a package of hot dog buns should suffice.

Thank god I’m within walking distance of a hyvee and a Fareway. This could be worse than the Winter Weather Advisory of ‘09 that we all remember so well.
