I saw they finally adjusted the CE curriculum at ISU to require an actual tech or business comm class. Our technical communication was half a class that included emailing a joke to the professor. Fun times.

Technically I still am. I didn’t **** up or anything — just got sick of figuring things out for other people.

With a title of "Embattled Turd Producer" I figure that you must be in wastewater treatment. Also with twelve years under your belt you must be at least 35 years old which would make you old from a millennial's point of view. Age is a matter of perspective.

When I was in school (2002-2007) we had to take either speech or technical writing. I took speech. It sucked,

Yes it is. But at least on my phone, It appears to leave only one space after the period if you double tap the spaceba . Sometimes, it deletes the last letter for some reason to .
This is a sentence with space bar tap twic . And it only left one space and deleated the e for some reason. Just running into all kinds of problems.
Also, you know how much time you would save by only adding one space at the end of your sentences? At least 3 seconds by the time a paper is done.

Hopefully you aren’t typing a paper on your phone. That would be a little slow.

2 spaces because a period is automatically inserted on mobile and I don’t have to switch and find it.

The joke's on you! You may tap 'space' twice, but that automated functionality generates a period and places a single space after said period.

Update: Posted before I caught up on all 4 pages, I see now a few others already caught the double-tap conundrum regarding mobile. Didn't mean to beat the proverbial horse.

This is correct. If you are typing on a typewriter then it is two spaces. Nowadays, on a computer, it's one.

Shoutout to the TV show where they said that joke and it stuck in my mind just waiting for the right place. And yep - I should still be waiting to use that gem.

It's weird. When I read your post it shows up with only one space. When I click on reply to mock you for using one space in your post defending the use of two spaces i see two spaces.

HTML won't display multiple spaces under normal circumstances. You have to use <pre> tags or non-breaking spaces (&nbps; )

EDIT: I wanted to see what would happen if I used THREE spaces.

This is only news now because Microsoft decided to make two spaces after a sentence show the squiggly line. Years ago it was a big deal for media writers and most got over/through it. Then when APA and other academic sources changed their style guides, there was another bit of feather-flying.
Two to one isn't new. And even though I used a typewriter all through college, I've been single for years.
