Seth Davis has us at #11. I believe that is unchanged from his ballot last week.

You can't be serious here. They played SMU and Arizona and lost to Arizona. Outside of those two they played Georgia and St John's, two mediocre power conference teams. I wouldn't say that's a "beefed up" schedule.

I include Gonzaga in this mid major fiasco also....Okay...they beat #17 SMU, #40 Georgia #48 St. Johns and #50 UCLA......who'd they play right after that? And then After that? This is my point. One night UNI can beat just about anybody...but then they get to go play Bradley...or Missouri State...you get the idea. Tell them to play Kansas then two days later play Texas...then play Oklahoma...you get the idea. The Panthers would not survive that as well as ISU...they just wouldn't. Are the Panther's a good team? Yes Are they built for a Power conference to do what they're doing now? No way.Gonzaga played and beat #17 SMU, #40 Georgia, #48 St. John's, and #50 UCLA. They also lost by 3 at Arizona. They also scheduled Wazzou, which also shows they at least tried to schedule better. Gonzaga's Non-Con SOS is 13. UNI is 128.
If they win out, expect a three seed. Loyola on road, Evansville and Bradley at home, road WSU, and three games in MVC. Seven to go and two real games.I agree with a lot of the points you're making. You haven't really been saying anything I disagree with. My whole point was that UNI could be a 2-3 seed if they win out. That's all.

I get really sick of seeing teams like Duke losing to an unranked team and fall from 2 to 4. Then seeing us lose to an unranked team and fall from 11 to 18 type stuff.

I do have an aversion to some posters to treating UNI the exact same way that Tavern Hoks treat ISU.
As I paged thru this thread, I had the exact same reaction - there's no need to minimize UNI's accomplishments this season! They're a very likeable program, with a coach who represents the university well and a bunch of home-grown players. What's not to like?
People put entirely too much stock in strength of schedule / power rankings when they prognosticate tournament performance. How many mid-majors with "weak" regular season conference schedules have we watched go deep in recent years (Butler, VCU, George Washington, WSU, etc.)? The SOS argument is superfluous...
Until such time as UNI begins pilfering recruits that Fred wants, I'll continue to celebrate their successes! I've alway maintained ISU fans are a cut above our EIU brethren because we don't act and talk like them - let's keep it that way!
