If you want to guarantee tix you have to get the package through the tourny website which means you have to get a hotel at one of the three options. Ive been calling and emailing them to figure this all out. The Iowa state office told me they have limited tix that will be available to top level boosters s they expect them all to be sold to those high level boosters. So I’m going to book an all tourney package just to make sure we can go. If you want to risk it, individual game tickets go on sale in August and if there are any available you would be able to buy just game tix and get a room wherever you wanted to but knowing how cyclones Travel and also assume duke Arizona and gonzaga fans will trace as well I don’t think it’s likely that there will be any available in August. We want to go so we are going to pony up for the all tourney package and stay 6 nights at the resort then probably add a couple extra nights from either that hotel or move to a different one after the games. It will cost us more obviously than if there are tickets available in August but I’d rather have the guarantee that we will get to go than try to save some bucks and possibly not get to. Hope this helps.

Well that's all really lame. If I'm going to Maui I don't want to stay at a hotel, I want to rent a condo. Too bad, was strongly considering going to this.

Meh, I don’t plan on spending much time in my room anyways other than sleeping so it doesn’t matter much to me. It’s listed as a resort and spa there will be tons of activities through the resort such as snorkeling diving biking hiking etc so I’m looking forward to that.

Meh, if I'm going to fly all the way to Hawaii, I'm going on my own terms. If I have to scalp tickets at the door, so be it, but I'm predicting tickets will not be that hard to come by if you really want them.

Worst case, I'll be in Maui without tickets to a basketball game. Something tells me I'll find a way to cope.

If this years tournament is any indication (based on game times), each of the sessions is two games. So for each session half the teams in the tournament wouldn't be playing. So I can't imagine it's that hard to pick up tickets from scalpers.

Its played in a high school sized gym so I’m not willing to risk it and have doubts that there will be scalpers-who would buy tickets other than fans of the teams playing? I was just trying to share some information that I had found. Hope ITV works out for you.

I was thinking the same thing. I had a room already reserved and decided last weekend to pull the trigger on the whole package. I don't want to worry about scalping and want to attend all the games anyway. I think the scalper pricing will be ridiculous based on the teams there.
I usually travel on points, so paying for any hotel room makes me feel violated. Oh, well, the rest of the two weeks and airfare are free, so not the worst thing in the world. We have been to Maui several times, so just there for the games and then off to other Islands to get away from the crowds.

I would be interested in hearing what you find out, I have been debating both options.
A poster on the cal bears board said he saw no scalpers until day 3 of the tourney which would be the finalday-I suppose some fans probably don’t care to watch their teams play for 7th/8th place and didn’t go. He said he bought an all session pass a few months prior to the tourny and they did get sold out prior to the tourny. Good luck to everyone doing whatever they feel will be best im just trying to help. I got my tickets purchased yesterday for my fam and another group of friends hope to see you there!

This is a bummer. I understand the purpose of these destination tournaments are for the sponsors to sell vacation packages, but even the cheapest option here comes out to like $600 per night.

FWIW i looked into room options as we are staying longer than just the three tourny days and that’s $600/night is cheap compared to a lot of other options on the island. I’m lookig at it as a once in a lifetime trip and realize I’m gonna drop some cash in the process and not worry about that but just enjoy it.

Exactly! This tournament has been on my bucket list for years. If and when we would be invited I was going to be there. So, I purchased my all tournament tickets for my family of four. Looking forward to our 2 weeks in Maui, watching college basketball, running the 5k, and hanging with fellow Cyclones! Life is short, enjoy it!

I'm confused...isn't this the same tourney that Chaminade always hosts? They've hosted this forever and been in the 8-team bracket every year too...but not next year? Why not?

Nevermind. Just read they are changing things up. They will be host every year and then every other year will be in the field. Next year is first time ever that 8 division one schools complete the bracket.

If you plan to go to the Maui Tournament next year, you might want to consider rental of a unit at a condominium complex. Two such facilities that are in close proximity to the tournament site in Lahaina are The Whaler http://www.whalerkaanapali.com/ and Kaanapali Alii http://www.kaanapalialii.com/, both of which are located on Kaanapali Beach. Units are owned by individuals who rent to the public either independently or through agencies. The above links are to agencies that operate on the premises. You can find alternative agencies and independent owners by looking on the internet. Often times, vacationers find this type of rental to be preferable to that of a hotel. They have amenities (e.g., a kitchen or grills next to the beach) that the hotels don't. Admittedly, the rates at these facilities are more variable than those of the hotels. Nevertheless, they are generally a little less expensive. I do have a unit at The Whaler https://www.mauiwhalercondorental.com/index.html but my unit is already occupied during the tournament.

See tix available to general public today... wonder if any are left before go about filling out the application.

Anyone else going and trying to get tickets elsewhere outside of the travel agency?
