Nettles made eight of 10 field goals as a senior, including a long of 54 yards, and 69 of 71 PATs. On kickoffs, 69 of his 96 kicks were touchbacks, which tied for the highest total in the state. He was named the first-team all-state punter in Class 3-A by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association after averaging 38.0 yards per attempt.

The 6-foot, 165-pounder chose Iowa State over a similar offer from Iowa. The Cyclones offered him in mid-October, and he made his decision just a few days later.

“Once Iowa State offered me, I just kind of knew that’s where I belonged, and I committed right away,’’ he said.

Nettles said he found everything he was looking for in Ames.

“Honestly, I have such a great relationship with the coaches,’’ he said. “I’ve felt that for over a year now. Everything at Iowa State academically was what I was looking for. I think the school and just the people that are going to be around me to help me succeed was what was most important.’’

The Cyclones usually have different players handling kickoffs and field goals/PATs. Nettles will compete in both areas for positions on the depth chart.
