One that comes to mind is Dion Waiters. It happens at the Blue Bloods but it probably is really rare at a program at our level.

Obviously fits in the blueblood sample.. But if I remember right Marvin Williams was the unc 6th man and got drafted as the 2nd overall pick.

wasn't the kid from villanova a couple of years ago a 6th man. divencenco..or something along those lines.
He was a 6th man for most of this sophomore year, but I’d consider Villanova a blue blood. I think there a quite a few from bluebloods but I can’t seem to recall any anywhere else. I’m sure it’s happened somewhere but gotta be rare.

I don't see THT or TH being ready to make a roster, much less be a 1st round draft pick. However, I remember Ricky Davis announcing for the draft after one year and I thought he was crazy. Sat a couple years, then ended up with a 12 year career. Don't know what he earned, obviously a lot less than today's NBA salaries, but had to still be a chunk of change. OK, I looked it up: $41,314,760!

It's all about youth and upside when it comes to the NBA Draft.
THT and Haliburton have both of those things.

And fit. Teams will take lower upside guys (although I'm not sure about putting ceilings on guys) if they believe they can fill a role on a team. Landry Shamet, Kevin Huerter, Grayson Allen, Chandler Hutchison, etc.

Are any of the mock drafts actually any good re projecting the actual draft? These things always just seem like an echo chamber, kind of like recruiting rankings.

I know. Just giving you a hard time. Deonte making it back to the NBA is a rare tale.

I agree, but it makes me wonder about people like Kane and Ejim. Both never had much more than a cup of coffee in the summer league, but I always thought that both could have contributed in the NBA, especially on some of the garbage bottom half teams.

Will Lard be back?

Halliburton's shot is actually even more strange than I first thought. He not only shoots it really low, but he kinda puts a side spin on it too. I have no idea how he can be as good of a shooter as he is with that awful form, but he is.

Plenty of guys can make shots with bad form. Heck, Curry's form is weird.

The issue is consistency and not getting it blocked if you've got a slow wind-up at the NBA level. Defenders are a lot faster, longer, and clever at that level.

I suppose that a good, smooth form is some guard against injury long-term, as well.

I get that Haliburton and THT are young, and have potential, but so do like 50 other freshman. Monte Morris was really young as a freshman, and was a much better player than Haliburton, and there was never even a thought of him getting drafted. THT I could see a little more with his skill set, but I have a hard time believing a 6'3" shooting guard with average athleticism by NBA standards who shoots 25% from 3 will be a first round pick.

The biggest surprise to me in those draft projections is Ja Morant and Jarrett Culver going ahead of R.J Barrett. Neither of those guys are freshman by the way.

Morris wasn’t much better as a freshman. Hard for a wallflower like Morris was to be much better imo.

This is same SI guy who saw THT and TH at Maui and has had them high entire year without even seeing another game probably...

Zero chance TH is going pro after this year..

LW leaves only bc he simply doesn’t want to play college ball anymore and is ok with going overseas..

As for THT...I just don’t see it yet...he’s just not nearly athletic enough to hang for 5 min with nba SG or SFs...
