247 released a new article with their top 10 conference games to watch this year. Among those games are the ISU matchups with Texas and Oklahoma. Their reasoning is basically what you'd expect it to be. Talented teams, experienced players, and rematches from last seasons close contests. The more hype I see built up around these games the more I can't wait for them. I'm never one to wish for summer to go by quicker, but I wouldn't complain if tomorrow was September 4th.

They also picked Iowa v. Wisconsin as a game to watch and mentioned there may be a battle for the starting QB spot going on over in Iowa City. Since we didn't play Iowa last year I didn't pay much attention to their season. What is the deal with Petras? I hear people trash him all the time and this article talks about a QB battle, but I find it hard to believe he's terrible with a 6-2 record and some pretty high scoring games last season. Is the Padilla kid at backup a stud QB that'll take the job or is Petras just bad enough that they're willing to try anyone else?

Winning those games had more to do with a crap schedule than anything Petras did. Even most rational hawk fans think he was trash for most of their season.

I think I watched one of their games, and from memory and from Hawk friends... Petras looks the part of a Iowa QB- big, strong arm, etc. But bad decision making and inaccurate. Doesn't throw it deep well at all. Only 9 TDs in 8 games. 6.4YPA is bad. You know how some quarterbacks have "it", that confidence and daring? Petras seems to have the opposite.

He is a big question mark for them. He was a redshirt soph, but was his first year as starter. Will he improve? Esp with decision making? Or is he basically what he is already, and continue to be inaccurate and inconsistent? Who knows really. But how he does will determine how their season goes; their run game isn't good enough to carry them this year (imho), even in the B1G West.
