I feel like folks on this board are gobbling up the SEC supremacy mentality. Barring multiple upset in CCG's, I'm a strong believer THIS YEAR that only Conference Champions should get into the 4 team playoff. And if Georgia & Pac12 games are the only upsets, I feel the Playoff should not include an SEC team. Aka

Michigan 13-0
FSU 13-0
UW (13-0) or UO (12-1)
Texas 12-1 (They beat Bama)

At some point the committee has to stop buying the SEC shtick they automatically deserve a bid because of their traditional strength. Each season should stand on its own. If Bama wins, this is the season for the committee to make a statement about the SEC 8 game conference schedule. There were 5 SEC teams with better than .500 record in conference games.

Has the committee ever even acknowledged this is a thing?

Is there an old BCS formula out there that shows who's where in rankings? Iirc the problem wasn't the computers, it was the lack of an extra game for a team to prove their way back after a late loss (OSU in 2011).

If Texas and Alabama are both (12-1) Conference Champions, Texas 100% deserves to be ranked ahead of Alabama. The Longhorns played a tougher schedule and won head to head @ Alabama. I say that as a part-time Alabama fan. If the Tide get left out, they get left out. At the moment, their only concern is beating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game which is a big, big, deal and all that matters right now. Last time they played (Jan. 2022 National Championship Game @ Indy), Georgia clunked them.

Whatever the outrage, it’s solved by the CFP expanding next year anyway. There’s no accountability.

Well, you’d think so, but the outrage in a 12-team system will be over the committee fighting over whether the SEC or the B1G should be granted a fourth spot in the playoff field. Or when they throw up their hands and say, “the eye test doesn’t lie - eight of the 12 playoff spots deserve to go to just these two conferences.”

I'm rooting for Alabama to beat Georgia because the outrage is going to be elite no matter which way they go.

For the record in that scenario, I'd be stunned if both SEC teams didn't make the playoffs and an undefeated FSU and 1 loss Texas were left at home.

If I were the committee I'd be praying pretty hard that Michigan, Georgia, Washington, and Florida St all win this weekend. Then it is a pretty easy decision. Any one of those outcomes goes the other way and it's going to be a glorious ********.

If Bama beats Georgia and Oregon beats Washington, give me both PAC schools in the CFP over two SEC schools.

Not gonna happen but one can wish.

I can't imagine a scenario where the committee puts Bama in over Texas, if they both have the same record, and are both conference champions. Not with the head to head win for Texas. That matchup has been settled on the field.
And they're not going to have Alabama jump an undefeated power conference champ either. The optics on that would be incredibly bad, and the blowback would be tremendous.

If Washington, FSU, Michigan, Texas and Bama all win this weekend, it's going to be glorious chaos.

I don't disagree with you in terms of what should happen. I also agree that the optics would look bad. I just don't think they care about optics (especially in the last year of this system). The Texas vs Alabama debate would be fantastic. To you and I, I think the answer is obvious. To the committee they see a team composed of one of the two best player composite ratings in the entire sport who also would be SEC champions against a team with a worse player composite ranking that won a weaker conference.

This year could end up either being one of the easiest ever or one of the hardest. Four undefeated P5 Champions should be an absolute layup. On the other hand, a slew of 12-1 conference champs and 1-loss favorite programs is going to end up with some people very, very angry.

With maximum chaos, the big question is how the committee will worth their way into justifying picking Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio St.

I just hate the idea of including CCG losers in the playoff in any scenario. CCG game weekend should almost be considered an extra round of the playoffs. Win and advance. If Bama beats UGA or Oregon beats UW then I already know Bama or Oregon are the better team. Let someone else have a crack at them in the playoff.

Will be interesting to see what happens if FSU barely squeaks by Louisville in a low scoring game this weekend. That would be 2 straight weeks that they wouldn't haven't looked good without their normal starting QB. Quite frankly I would rather see someone else in the Playoff because I don't think FSU would be able to put up much of a fight vs. probably Georgia or Michigan in the Semi-Final game.

Yes I know they would be undefeated but they also aren't the same team now as they were earlier with Jordan Travis. It is in the CFP bylaws that the committee can factor in player injuries.

Exactly. If you lose in the championship game you should be out in a 4 team playoff. Actually If you lose late in the year, you should be out (the Ohio State).

I can agree with this....I guess if I were to choose one conference to take two teams from it would be the Pac.

Two SEC teams over either Pac 12 would be an absolute travesty.

The SEC is down this year. They lost a lot of stud QBs last year and their replacements are not great. Neiither Georgia nor Alabama have looked dominant. The fact that Missouri went 10-2 tells you something. Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina are all way down in the East, and every team in the West is down this year. The New Mexico St beat down of Auburn and the BYU win at Arkansas are indicative of the SEC this year. If Alabama beats Georgia they both should be out of the playoff.
