After week 1, Brett McMurphy currently has Iowa State projected to go to the Independence Bowl and face off against Washington State. He favors ISU to win by -3.5. There are currently 11 Big XII teams in his bowl projections, tied for most with the SEC. The SEC has a few more teams in the top bowls, while the Big XII has more in the lesser bowls. Still, it shows that there is a really strong base to the conference.

ESPN has us in the Independence Bowl vs. Cal and in the Armed Forces Bowl vs Duke

CBS doesn't have us in yet

CBS Sports doesn't have ISU in. Palm has Baylor in Independence. Based on what, I don't know.

Admittedly, beating UNI doesn't bring much leverage, but when you're doing a snapshot "if bids happened today," can't justify putting BU in after that loss.

The schedule looks softer than we thought after week one.

This is approximate but...

BIG 12 TEAMS THAT LOOKED GOOD

UCF (murdered Kent State)
Kansas State (murdered SEMO, wasn't as close as the score)
Oklahoma (those poor Redwolves)
Iowa State (murdered UNI, wasn't as close as the score)
Cincinnati (murdered Eastern Kentucky)

MEH

Kansas (a pretty good win against a meh Missouri State)
West Virginia (didn't win but played Penn State tough most of the game)
Texas (shouldn't have let Rice hang around that long)
TCU (media is way overhyping Colorado but TCU looks to be rebuilding this season)
Oklahoma State (not sure what they're doing right now...)

EMBARRASSING

Baylor (LOL!)
Houston (UTSA is a good program, but that was way too close)
Texas Tech (LOL!!!)
BYU (a W but did not look good)

There is a lot of football to go, but there are winnable games on that schedule.

Houston was actually an underdog in that game so I'm not sure I'd call it embarrassing.

According to Vegas it was an upset.

Obligatory "it's still early," but it really isn't hard to picture 4-5 conference wins. We'll see how it plays out.

I'm not predicting this, but if you win all the games against the "meh" and "LOL!" teams on my list and drop the four that aren't on the schedule and lose against "good" teams, then you go 6-3.

Which would mean a eight- or nine-win season assuming Ohio is a W and depending on Iowa.

Again, not predicting it, but it's at the ragged edge of possible.

This is true.

My ratings were less "did they beat the spread" than "how did they look/how did they perform relative to how they 'should' against the level of competition they played in Week 1."

Hence why WVU (who lost) rated higher than Houston.

Houston isn't good. It's bad luck they're not on the schedule. Not having UCF cancels that out, though -- they look really good so far. Cincinnati and BYU are a relatively neutral draw together.

UTSA is actually a very solid opponent. I think it's a good win for them and winning by any amount was impressive. UTSA will likely be playing in the AAC title against Tulane.

In defense of Kansas, they were without Daniels and Bean is a huge step down from him. It was a solid win for them, just took care of business.

Agree with what others were saying about Houston. They were projected to be bottom three of this conference going against a top 3 opponent from the best G5 conference

100% agree houston isn't good.

In an ideal world I wish we could replace @Baylor with Houston or WV.

I got us playing Georgia in the national championship game. Not sure why they do these things this early in the season. I bet we look back in a few months no one will be close except for the obvious. I do like our chances of a bowl game though. Watched some other teams we're playing and we looked better. Our defense is nasty this year.
