We will have to get very lucky to get a 4 seed close to home.

Everyone is misunderstanding what happened last year. The tournament results DID help our seed last year as it elevated us to the last two seed.

Although no one thought it at the time, the committee clearly had us as a 3 seed until we advanced to the conference championship (and maybe because we won).

The fact that the committee had us lower than we expected doesn’t mean the conference tournament didn’t help us.

Playing two 7 footers is a nightmare, especially when one has the passing, rebounding, and shooting ability of Wolf
ISU's kryptonite isn't bigs in the post. It's having 5 guys able to hit 40% from three. Like BYU. And even then, I think the Cyclones are a 50/50 shot at winning the game if everyone plays effectively.

We weren't a 2 seed before the conference tournament so it did help
At the mid year unveiling of the top 16 we were 11th last year. From that moment on to selection Sunday (after winning the conf tourney) we moved up to #8 overall. So it wasn’t a big jump.

For solid tournament teams, conference tournament games matter about as much as non-CFP bowl games in football.

There is a recognition/expectation that serious contenders are trying to ‘load manage’ and prepare for the NCAA tournament, not fighting to win the conference tournament.

Committee knows this and, imho, weights the conference tournament lower than regular season games.

I hope we hang on the last 3 seed, but we have to be honest with ourselves.

We finished fifth in the conference. We were bounced in the quarterfinals of the tourney which means we cannot make a claim for anything higher than fifth in the conference tournament. Arizona was a good win, but at home, leaving us with very few signature victories in the last month. And we have two starting players in the questionable category.

Me thinks we need to be prepared to be a 4 seed. Which would suck. I think there is a relatively big difference between a 3 and a 4.

yeah I think we have done enough to be a 3 as well.

I still want to see Wisconsin lose to MSU (and me cheering for MSU on the side is only a factor in that). When bracketologists I trust more have Wisconsin nearly a full seed line in true seed below ISU, this is more about comfort level for me. If Wisconsin goes on and wins this, things could get spicier.

I mean A&M and Kentucky are 5th and 6th in their league and also lost early and we have higher metrics than both and they are still predicted to be 3 over us by many.

4 is coming. Be prepared. But if we are with Duke bring it.

(1) We finished fifth in the conference. (2) We were bounced in the quarterfinals of the tourney which means we cannot make a claim for anything higher than fifth in the conference tournament. (3) Arizona was a good win, but at home, leaving us with very few signature victories in the last month. (4) And we have two starting players in the questionable category.

Me thinks we need to be prepared to be a 4 seed. Which would suck. I think there is a relatively big difference between a 3 and a 4.

(1) who cares? The Big 12 is a strong enough conference, and ISU has played a brutal schedule. Why is it OK for the SEC to have their 5th and 6th place teams with top 3 seeds, but not the Big 12?

(2) once again, who cares? We literally threw our participation in the tournament by sitting arguably our two best players so they can rest injuries for the NCAAs... and we still almost beat BYU anyway.

(3) which is why we're a #3 seed and not a #2 seed

(4) Lipsey is probably at least getting spot play next week, and we more than likely don't need Gilbert to get through the first weekend.

But hey - props on an absolute beauty of a "nutcup" post.

That pathetic effort in Stillwater looms large. Could’ve withstood the K-Stare loss otherwise.
