Now that I have gotten used to Hallice wearing #3, I started thinking.

Curious to see what you all think, now being 21 months removed.

My initial reaction after his last season was absolutely yes it should be retired. Now I am not so sure. I think it should take ALOT to be in the rafters. Niang is a more reasonable modern option I think.

Poll coming

I went with yes then and yes now, but my yes now isn't as confident as it once was. I think a lot of that feeling comes from not having seen him play for so long, though. When you look at the numbers, nothing has changed.

Georges probably deserves it as well. Dude is all Iowa State.

I thought no then, and still think no. (Mainly because Fizer needs to be retired first).

Yes Ejim, Yes Georges, Maybe Monte

There aren't that many numbers available. I think it should take a lot more to get your number retired, and that should include graduating from ISU and having a successful career at the next level. We can't just go retiring numbers for every player that had a special career at ISU. There has to be stronger criteria to make it a rare accomplishment.

Should Niang have his number retired if he doesn't have an NBA career? Even if he goes on to lead Iowa State in most statistical categories this year on the way to the Final Four?

It's the jersey that gets retired. We can still use the #.

It's jersey, not number first off. And shouldn't there be more jerseys being retired when we are really good compared to other times in our history?

I voted no/no because I interpreted it as actually retiring the #3 (as indicated in the poll question), not 'the jersey'. Absolutely his jersey should be, but not the number.

I loved Melvin but he is not what I would call a dominant player. He only averaged double figures in his junior and senior year, if I remember correctly. GREAT GREAT player but I do not think number retired great.

I'm all for Ejim being up there... I think they should have the best pf (Fizer) and best pg (Tinsley) in ISU history up there first though.

Yes, but not for a while. It's still too soon. Great student athlete and conference MVP.

Fizer needs to be at the front of the line when it comes to jersey retirement in Hilton. I don't think there should be a discussion on Ejim until after Fizer gets his jersey up there.
