Just to continue the game of what ifs, if Manning were to take a head coaching job elsewhere, who would we have as the offensive coordinator? Would it be Nate or Gordon? If it’s Gordon that may free up a spot for Kempt to take over QBs.
I think we have to do anything we can to keep Nate around. His recruiting has paid off so well. I’ve seen some K-State fans saying they wish Klieman would hire him to replace Messingham.

You have to wonder how connected someone like Palmer really is in a situation like this. How much of his information is he getting from people with direct knowledge of the situation? This feels more like a wish list than an actual candidate pool.

I mean Tomlin is a future HOF Head Coach. He is in his 15 years with the Steelers and has never had a losing record. Why would he leave that to go into the college coaching ranks?
Who knows. Tomlin is still a young guy and maybe he wants a change. Ben is probably retiring, so timing might be good

If there is interest by Tomlin, I would think he has used Herm Edwards as a sounding board. Also USC had pretty good luck with Pete Carroll.

Tomlin can probably get $8-10M from USC.

With that said, I think I'm speaking for many many people when I say that I won't be at all surprised if Matt decides to look for the next bigger thing after this season. Is that job USC? I would say with only sem-confidence that the answer is no. It doesn't seem a good "fit" to me, but I would admit that being in the PAC would give him a slightly better chance of reaching the CFP and then winning it all. However, I'm not really worried about the USC job. We'll see what jobs come up later. Hopefully no good ones.

I think this is the offseason that will be the huge indicator of Matt's future at ISU. If he stays this offseason, with all the players that will be gone after this year, I think he's here for the long haul. Like the really long haul. If he were going to leave for a bigger job, this seems to be the offseason to do it. Hoping like hell Jamie can find whatever money, black jerseys (black everything) he wants to keep him in Ames for years to come.

Having said that, I do not think the "bigger job" is USC. His personality just does not fit that culture/program. He actually has a moral compass - that won't fly there.

I would be more concerned about a Penn State opening if Franklin goes to USC.

More money, better recruiting class, billionaire donors, more stable conference, and more benefit of the doubt for rankings. He turned us down once before (and could totally see doing it again) but the program he turned down before was a dumpster fire and the program now is a (kinda fake) top ten team. Again not saying he would but he, and fickell if he somehow isnt at USC, will be asked again when tucker leaves.

He can get that at any Big 10 school, or any SEC school, or any ACC school. Michigan State makes as much sense as Illinois or Purdue. Michigan, ND, Ohio State, Penn State or the right NFL job...I think that is the list.

No offense to the MSU poster, but Campbell isn't leaving for that job. If PSU opens up, then I would worry a bit.
No offense taken, the PSU job is better then state but i dont really think franklin would leave when he gets more money and has a top 3 recruiting class coming in. Could be wrong though.

I don't think Gundy would mesh with LA for a few reasons.
I think he could because he has a strong personality and he really is a Hollywood type coach he's just in Stillwater. He has a strong enough personality to be an NFL coach so I think he'd handle LA with ease. He's the best guy out there they could throw 8 mill a year at. He's a proven winner and recruiter. Assuming Pedersen isn't in the mix anyway.

calm down, you’re taking it personally. He meant that any of those middling big ten type jobs are all alike, unless the coach has a connection to the school. Those schools could throw the same cash at him if they wanted.

Matt does not have any connection to Michigan State, and it’s not really a blue blood job.

Right now Campbell has it all. With a great salary and a fan base that is "forever true," I can't think of any situation that could pry him away from what he experienced last Saturday. He's got unfinished business right here in Ames...beating Iowa twice and getting us into the CFP. The only box left to check will be including ISU when the TV pundits talk about the blue bloods.

Tomlin can probably get 10-12 from any NFL team looking for a new coach.

Oh the money thing I totally agree with but the rest is nonsense. Illinois has been to 2 bowl games in the last decade and Purdue has won the big ten once in the last 50+ years.

The question is not whether MSU or ISU are a better job. The question is whether MSU or Campbell's alternatives are better jobs. He has the luxury to hold out for an absolute top shelf college job if he wants it or jump to the NFL. If MSU was ever going to get Campbell it was going to be 3-4 years ago ahead of everyone and their dog knowing he's one of the best head coaches in the country. He's outgrown all college jobs that aren't absolute top shelf programs. Tucker has turned out well, but there's a reason MSU had to settle for a sub .500 coach in a bad league, and if Tucker is going to bolt that should tell you something about how desirable the MSU job is. Obviously Saban bolted as well. Dantonio stuck around and won a ton of games, but his third or fourth season was kind of a mess on and off the field, then he had health issues. It seems like the timing of those issues plus his age and health made him probably want to stick around, and maybe dampened interest from blue bloods to hire him away. Maybe there were some offers, but it seemed like there were a lot of circumstances keeping him there.

MSU is a fine job, but if there was ever an indication that Campbell ever floated he wanted to move on to another college job there would be lots of buyout dollars made available for much better jobs than MSU.
