Honestly if we lose a coach next year, I'd suspect it would be Tom Manning... He already left once and if an opportunity opens up for him as a HC somewhere (I'm thinking MAC/Mtn West/etc) I could see him taking it.

And no, I'm not in the camp who wants him gone - I think a huge part of our success has been coaching retention.
Retention is a huge part of many successful programs...except for Saban, who can apparently turn anybody into a decent coach under him.

Agree that entire list is wishful thinking. Campbell's name gets thrown around because no media member seems to understand why he likes it here. Fickel and Cinci are similar.

I don't understand why Franklin's name is on every job. Is it his agent shopping him, trying to get a better contract with Penn St? Dude makes a lot of money at a school that could pay him a lot more if they wanted.

Was going to post the same thing. Penn St is a good job, I'm not sure why anyone thinks he would leave for USC.

I’d be much more worried of Franklin taking it and then Campbell to PSU than Campbell to USC.
This is the real question. CMC to USC is a joke almost as big of one as tomlin who even if fired (which Pittsburg doesn't really do) would have about a dozen NFL jobs readily available. Franklin also is a stretch unless he wants a change of scenery for some reason because those two jobs are pretty equal. Fickell with his ties is the best bet.

I actually think CMC could stay for awhile if he turns us down again when tucker leaves for LSU but that to me is the bigger question then leaving for USC.

I have no idea what kind of staff Tomlin would put together at USC...so who knows with him...but the other three would need to rethink their offensive philosophies if they end up on that campus! Winning games 21-17 might be good for coaching...but it would bore that community! Winning 10 games consistently would work...but unless it is an "exciting" brand it could have trouble getting noticed they way the school would hope in that market.
Tomlin would probably only take it if he got bored coaching a legendary franchise such as that of the Steelers. Everyone else is in the midst of success with the programs they built. If you don't have the competitive roster, why would you want to do it all over again? USC had its time in the limelight and there, to me, is not a lot of excitement for college football there the way it is in Ames, Cincy or Happy Valley.

While some fans dont like him he makes more money then the last USC coach and has the number 3 recruiting class next year. Only reason he leaves is for weather or to play less competition. He hasn't delivered at PSU but he isnt on the hot seat

Just to continue the game of what ifs, if Manning were to take a head coaching job elsewhere, who would we have as the offensive coordinator? Would it be Nate or Gordon? If it’s Gordon that may free up a spot for Kempt to take over QBs.

IF he turns you down? LMAO. Why in God's green earth would Matt Campbell be interested in Michigan State?

More money, better recruiting class, billionaire donors, more stable conference, and more benefit of the doubt for rankings. He turned us down once before (and could totally see doing it again) but the program he turned down before was a dumpster fire and the program now is a (kinda fake) top ten team. Again not saying he would but he, and fickell if he somehow isnt at USC, will be asked again when tucker leaves.

I'm just getting this out there so I can point back to it if I get badgered in the future about any responses. I love Campbell and hope he stays here forever. He's a great man and a really good builder of something more than just football. I hope he stays in college forever and never tries to make the jump to the NFL because he is so good for this sport and for the men who learn under him.

With that said, I think I'm speaking for many many people when I say that I won't be at all surprised if Matt decides to look for the next bigger thing after this season. Is that job USC? I would say with only sem-confidence that the answer is no. It doesn't seem a good "fit" to me, but I would admit that being in the PAC would give him a slightly better chance of reaching the CFP and then winning it all. However, I'm not really worried about the USC job. We'll see what jobs come up later. Hopefully no good ones.

(For the record, I would be worried about Michigan State/Michigan/PSU)

PSU fans have been pretty vocal for quite some time that they aren't happy with Franklin.

It's tough to be liked in Happy Valley when you're not a 95 year old that's perfectly willing to harbor a predatory child molester...

I have no idea if Campbell will ever leave but I'm pretty confident that it won't be for USC.

Regarding USC's list: you've got to be kidding to include Tomlin. Seems much more plausible he misheard someone say "Tom Herman" (which honestly seems like a perfect fit for USC)

So your argument for why CMC would go to Michigan State is "More money, better recruiting class, billionaire donors, more stable conference"... and in your mind "the bigger question" is whether he'll stay at ISU vs go to Michigan State "then leaving for USC"?

All of your listed reasons for why he would consider the Michigan State job over staying at ISU he can get in greater quantity at USC, LSU, etc.

Michigan state is NOT on my radar as a place I'm worried about CMC leaving to.

Cincinnati is >>>>>>> Michigan State as far as a potential place for CMC to leave for.

Is Alan Haller the kind of AD who can talk a coach into coming there? He doesn't seem to be the most charismatic...

Oh totally agree with you that USC is more likely a better job even with their struggles the last decade but everyone on this board seems to think that it would be a horrible fit and how CMC is a midwest guy. Cincy is a stepping stone job and always has been but my god can their athletic department find excellent coaches.
