5 Quarterbacks

I didn't realize that Cincinnati won the Big East last year using 5 quarterbacks. I've always thought that we should have hired Coach Kelly but now I'm even more convinced. Wow! Could you imagine Chiz*ick and the Hillbilly crew trying this???

"The Bearcats are accustomed to juggling quarterbacks. Last season, they won their first Big East title despite using five quarterbacks due to injuries. Starter Dustin Grutza broke his leg, and Pike took over and broke his forearm two games later. Collaros finished the game in which Pike was hurt, and Chazz Anderson -- also a sophomore this season -- started the next two games. Pike returned and started every game the rest of the season with the plate and screws in the forearm.
The Bearcats were able to keep winning because of a solid defense and Kelly's planning. His backup quarterback takes about 40 percent of the snaps in practice each week, leaving him prepared in case there's an injury.

Hard to predict Kelly's success. He was 19-16 at Central Michigan. And before that......at a D2 school. I will admit I was disappointed when I heard that we had hired him.....and then much more excited when we hired Chizik.

Then once again excited when Chizik left. And more excited when we hired Rhoads!

But, I doubt anyone would have guessed Kelly would be 28-6 at Cincy with BCS bowl games this soon.

Bah, he's doing it all with Mark Dantonio's players. Let's wait and see what happens when he gets his own guys into his system.

I love to laugh at teams like OU that put all their eggs in to one basket (Bradford) and struggle like crazy once he goes down. Not saying I like seeing a QB get injured. I just think idiots like Stoops deserve it when they rely on one guy and don't work with the backup. I'm glad to see the competition and bright future with Tiller and it's obvs our coaching staff always knows he's a play away from taking over. And I said it before but boy is he fast, he doesn't take on tackles and push forward for yardage like Arnaud, but it is good to see a stand up backup QB who knows the reigns could be his soon and a staff that prepares him. I can also tell Tiller won't be a guy who will key for Miami (OH) because he is behind Arnaud on a depth chart.

Tiller isn't going anywhere. He's got a great chance at starting for 2 years after AA graduates. And I like seeing him getting some experience right now, it will pay dividends later on when he is the starter.

Gotta love the 20-20 hindsight on Kelly.

Personally, I think we made the most prudent hire at the time. Make no mistake, Kelly has benefited from taking over a program that Dantonio built at Cincy as well as playing in a horrible conference (Big 10 level horrible).

Having said that, I do think his offensive gameplanning is quite good.

In the end, ISU will be fine and Cincinnati will be looking for a new coach soon.

If Cincy runs the table and doesn't get into the National Championship game, Kelly will be gone. If they lose 1 or 2 and play for a BCS Game, he's gone. If they don't go to the BCS, he stays, and if they play for the National Title, he stays. There isn't anything higher to accomplish than playing for the Title, and when you have a coach like that, you'll dig into those pocket books to keep him around.

The guy has won big everywhere he's ever been and rebuilt Grand Valley State & Central Michigan seemingly overnight. He's an offensive genius! What in the world would lead you to believe he's living off somebody elses players?

Yeah, those players practically coach themselves!

Seriously, this is a tired argument. He's in his 3rd year there now, don't you think he might have 1 or 2 guys that he recruited in the system by now?

Everyone said the same thing about Urban Meyer when he got to Florida, "he's winning with all that talent that Zook left him." Well, what did Zook do with that same talent? Jack squat, that's what. Some coaches are just better. Period.

What about winning it?

I'm sure Kelly has a few of his own guys in the system at this point but the majority of key players are guys he inherited...including Tony Pike. Les Miles won a National Championship in year 3 with players mostly recruited by Nick Saban.

I follow the SEC pretty closely and I don't recall anyone that knows anything about the SEC saying that about Meyer. Most said Zook was a poor coach but a great recruiter.

Of course, comparing Meyer's coaching career to that of Kelly is ridiculous. Meyer had tremendous success at both Utah and Bowling Green before Florida. No one is surprised that he won with Zook's players and he is now winning with his own.

This is what I was going to say. Supposedly we came to the table and he was holding out for other offers....ie, Michigan State, so we moved on. Thats the way I understand it, in my limited scope of knowledge.
