I know the long-range forecasts usually are less accurate. The purpose of this post is to point out that we're almost to the season! 9/4 can't get here fast enough!

I'm not pretending to be a weatherman or making fun of them, but yesterday blows my mind. All day they predicted ~0.5" or more of rain overnight. Then a couple hours before it was supposed to happen they said it was going to miss the metro. Storm proceeds to dump over an inch.

And the 2019 Iowa game was supposed to be 81 and sunny. Maybe a chance for storms after the game.

I'm not one to bash meteorologists; I understand it's a hard science and you're trying to predict unpredictable events. But man, if they could give us a 'debrief' of what happened when they missed a forecast, that'd go a long way.

Spot on. The rain on the north side of Ames despite many times all summer for a decent amount never got anything. Thankfully 7 tenths last night even though a prediction of 2-3 inches.

As of right now, the weather gods are calling for a high around 80 and a 40% chance of thunderstorms with precip more likely in the evening.

Predicting rain or not is pretty worthless beyond 7 days out. Predicting timing of rain is worthless beyond 3-4 days out.
