A nice win over a team that..........

Agree. With Coach H.'s coaching style, it seems as if it's better (or at least equal to) to work with proven high-level transfers as opposed to the the time and effort necessary to secure and keep HS high-level recruits. Once in a while, a coach can score big time at the last minute, but usually it's years of work to see them go elsewhere or maybe not perform (or only perform for one year) to expectations. Work with quality transfers and spend time and effort cultivating their games. Great job coaches and athletes!

Bilas: "UNLV transfer wing is a mismatch for KU's McD AA wing"

Sounds like I'm making it up, except not at all.

Why was Lucas playing over Alexander? That's a coaching mistake. Self said that he didn't think his motor was great, and that's still a coaching mistake on his part.

Lucas got absolutely shredded by ISU tonight. I really think that and the early foul trouble on Perry Ellis were the key factors.

One of the possible problems is that athletes can be passed over very quickly. In a traditional "HS recruit only" roster, guys can sit on the bench, work hard, knowing "their time is coming". It's hard in this system because 3 already proven players may join the team before next season (or 1-2 during the season). It has worked for us because of Fred. Trust is a huge factor when trying to build a team using such a non-traditional method and he is the kind of person that builds trust and continuously displays trust. It won't work the way Fred has done it for most other coaches/programs.

Those younguns don't seem to believe in D. Caused their two guys who fouled out to pick up some cheap ones trying to bail them out.

that was the worst KU defense I have ever seen. We could get to the rim at will. Whether that was the skill of our ball handlers or the defense I am not prepared to say.... but it was fun to watch on my side.

Overlooked is that we played some pretty good defense.

Jay Williams even noted during gameday that Monte does play some good D, kind of a reversal.

We're getting better on that end for sure, no coincidence we look better with McKay. Ellis still had a good game but mostly when McKay wasn't on him.

I completely agree. Bilas said the key to this game was going to be transition defense, and KU apparently forgot how to play it (thankfully). We beat them down the court more times than I could count. How many times did we inbound the ball just to have a pass fly up the court to a player who was behind their defense? I'm guessing that's not how Self drew it up.

Best time was when Mason just jogged after a made basket, enjoying it, and Monte just sprinted with the ball down the court to score. Announcars called out mason for a while on that play.

If Self wins the Big 12 again with this lineup, it will be his best coaching job ever. That team we beat last night is his weakest team to date IMO. Now that they've been handed a Bug 12 loss, I hope other Big 12 teams can smell blood in the water.

I think this year Kansas is just like last year's team without Embiid. We could get into the lane at will against them then too, but it wasn't so easy to finish.
