Some of the items you say are true. He does know some of the Iowa coaches but you are not going to win with all Iowa kids and Gmac proved he could not get the good one. We are not going to win with the players we have now. Who do you think is good enought to win with. Think what we have for players and compare them with the other teams. Gmac is not going to change for anyone to an up tempo. It is his show. Why do you think players are leaving. We would be better off with Jake Sullivan. He know AAU coaches and is well thought of in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I still have not found out who GMAC has recruited. If Wayne Morgan end up at Iowa that will put us back 5 years.

If you bring a coach in that can connect with the players and can help develop them then yes you can win with this roster. There was talent there last season, there was just something missing. If this team hits a few more shots here or there it is a different season. Jake Sullivan and ISU wont work. Morgan going to Iowa will have no affect on ISU. Look at what Nurse has done and where he has been, he has to know people in the business from his past.

BTW learn how to quote.

This is true. Ok, so we don't give Mac credit for the good ones. That is fine with me. The problem is you can't then blame him for not getting more of them. It doesn't work that way.

Not attacking you Wags, just using your facts to make a point.

Its fine. but to me to me the head coach is the leader, he is responsible for getting the assistants that are recruiters and x's and o's guys. I'm not saying the assistant coaches are the sole reason they come here, but they obviously play a major role i.e. Colvin and Drob.

I did a little research on all of this "pro experience" Nurse has.

Most of it is in the British Basketball League (BBL). I'm not even sure the league is in existance anymore. I do know that every team Nurse coached is now defunct.

His longest tenure was with Brighton...5 years. In that 5 years they finished 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 5th, and 8th respectively. The only player's name that I recognized was Dennis Rodman who played three games for Brighton (a publicity stunt from what it looks like).

I'm not sure this "pro experience" is really going to help us much from either a contact standpoint for recruiting or from a coaching standpoint. My guess is that the quality of players and play in the league was not too good.

Hopefully, I am wrong. I just want ISU MBB to win and be relevant again...ASAP. And, frankly, at this point with his track record...every decision GM makes deserves to be heavily scrutinized as opposed to given the benefit of the doubt.

Brackins came from california to a high school in chicago men and boys on his way to isu.a coach got let go and he was not sure what to do so decided to go to brewister and finally keep his verble. Now u tell me about gilstrip.

What does any of that have to do with Mac getting him. He was still here and Mac was the head coach.

I agree completely. That is sort of my point. My main point is that you have to be consistent. If you put all of the bad recruits on the coach you have to put all of the good ones on him too. If you put all the good ones on the assistants, then you have to put the bad ones on them. Which you do is a matter of opinion but you cannot separate them.

. . . He can not recruit. You got to be able to see the players and if you do not know the coaches of the players it won't happen. I just do not see where this helps ISU. What players has GMAC recruited to be in the top of the BIG 12.
You don't think having a (previous) NBA D-League coach on your staff won't help sell recruits to our program? Our program can say -- "Look at our staff -- we've got NN -- who coached the likes of <insert names here> and got them ready for the NBA. NBA coaches trusted him and his insights into players trying to get to the NBA. He knows NBA talent and NBA style of play (whether or not our program plays that style -- but we don't mention that)."

Seems like a quality addition to our recruiting "sell".

Do you actually know anything about the basketball team? Really. I am serious. The first half of the season was built on running the floor. Then we lost two guards and one had mono for the vast majority of the season. How does Wayne Morgan going to Iowa affect us? Do you think he could have gotten Barnes? He is heavy in New York. I would rather have Nurse here than Morgan.

I would have taken Brackins and Gilstrap over a lot of the guys in the conference last year. That is recruiting talent. I expect that we will be very happy with what Scotty and DG do next year as well as Colvin. Dendy could be very good as well, not to mention the guys coming in. You have proven to me in very few posts you really don't know what you are talking about. You seem to be one of those people that would ***** for bitchings sake. Get some knowledge of the team and come back with something that is actually reasonable and preferably factual.

This.

I think Greg has done a good job with recruiting since he got to Ames. He got Dunson, Taylor, and Johnson in 3 weeks. Recruiting hasn't been Greg's problem, retention and coaching has.

Get off the bring Wayne Morgan back idea. If he is such a good coach why has he not been picked up by someone else yet? His track record is much the same whereever he has coached. At Long Beach State he had 1 good year (24-6 and lost in first round of NIT) and only 2 winning seasons out of 9, his record at ISU went down hill every year he was here, and got us in trouble with the scheduling issue. He is a good recruiter, but since he was fired he was not picked up anywhere else, there is probably a good reason for this.

The Sarcasm pirate is there for a reason
