Another benefit of this would be the "roll over" effect (I'm sure there is some actual broadcasting term, but I don't know it) of people tuning in for the ND game and keeping it on the same channel which boost the Big12 game ratings.

I wonder if you could even split the T1 between NBC and CBS?
It would definitely help, but thats why NBC wants it.
Big 12 game first, a lot of that audience sticks around to watch Notre Dame. Then the viewers for the game after tune into Notre Dame first. The games before and after get a bit of the same effect.
USA and TNT both have more linear subs than ESPN does. USA actually could be just as important to this deal as NBC is if the money is right for the B12. You could have GOTW #1 on NBC, GOTW #2 on USA and GOTW #3 on FS1.
T1a / T1b I was thinking the same thing, like the weeks that NBC has a ND game 7 of 13 weeks CBS gets first pick, NBC gets first pick on weeks ND is away.
Except FOX bought the John Tesh theme from NBC.
I can't see NBC taking more than 1 B12 game a week if it happens. Notre Dame isn't budging from their 1:30 kickoffs and I can't imagine the B12 signs up for 10:00 kicks. Now if NBC wants to pay for an exclusive 5:00 kick every week that's an entirely different story.
May depend if we can get to Big 18.
Imo this is why consolidation of leftovers into one conference, Big 12 in this case, is best for all leftovers that make it.
Get 6 top remaining PAC, or 4 corners plus Oregon/UW, and if that ACC GOR were not so long, you’d likely land several good additions from ACC similar position to Oregon and UW. It won’t happen, but with ESPN having tried to end the Big 12, it only fair a Big 18 get on T1 with CBS and NBC, then help the BIG/FOX get dissolution of ACC
Add some ACC leftovers and I think we would do 10:00.
And ND is willing to budge to stay independent and make basically P2 money.
There seems to be a general sense that streaming is killing off shared rights. SEC is now exclusive to ESPN and everyone expects Big 10 to be purely Fox. I don't know if CBS would be interested if it doesn't include Paramount+ rights or NBC with Peacock. Maybe NBC would go for second tier games to fill around Notre Dame and then CBS gets the best games. I think CBS is either in for top picks for a conference or they're out of college football.
I think things are potentially quite a bit different now. The new members of the Big 10 and SEC give them a lot more scheduling leverage with ND. If the Big 10 really wants to pressure ND, the obvious thing they can do is agree to not schedule them and that now includes USC.
Yeah, I think Notre Dame will have to make some adjustments like that to stay somewhat competitive with the P2. We've seen they are slower and less likely to make some of those changes to keep with tradition but things do gradually change over time even for them.
There likely is an ongoing bidding war between CBS and NBC for B12 T1 rights. My preference would be the B12 replacing the SEC as the CBS GOTW in the same time slot on a weekly basis which optimizes B12 brand building. That time slot could be moved by an hour or so to not directly compete with the future SEC GOTW on ABC at 2:30 CT. Will be interesting to see what shakes out.
Yeah, NBC does have Peacock but CBS also has an existing streaming service with Paramount+.
If The Big Ten tried to get USC to not schedule Notre Dame could be a nonfactor if Oregon would go indy. That would give them two schools to alternate back-and-forth with them
And you know if there's one play left in the game to decide the winner, they're cutting to the ND pregame.
Collusion in the Big Ten not to schedule ND is the whole reason the Big 10 is a last resort for ND
They also have separate CBS Sports "app" which streams a bunch of stuff. I get access to a bunch of streamed sports content with my Paramount+ subscription. I actually signed up for the Paramount+, in order to get access to the Sports, so I could watch the UNLV game last year.
True. I guess for me the big difference is that Peacock has already dived heavily into live sports streaming with the Premier League stuff. Juts makes me fell like they might have more of an appetite/ability to take on more.
