A season after... Does Melvin Ejim's jersey still deserve to be in the rafters?

Just realized that there have been more recent women that have had their jersey's retired than men. Makes no sense.
And the last men's player was a one-time HM All-American that was not a Conference Player of the year in an 8 team league, in a year where there were co-Players of the year. In other words, 25% of the league had a player of the year on their team, and ISU wasn't one of them. And I am not arguing against Fred having his jersey in the rafters. I just think the criteria are wacky when we've had multiple time AAs, 1st and 2nd team AAs, and conference players of the year since and none of them are up there.

It's basically like we're just refusing to do it at all.

Pretty odd that our criteria now are apparently tougher than UNC or KU, when our frequency of having CPoY is going to generally be much lower.

I haven't gone to check this in detail, but I can't imagine that UNC or KU fans look for ways to diminish the CPoYs and All-Americans, either.
Well, I don't think we need guys showing off with their conference player of the year and All-American awards having their jerseys in the rafters. Pretty over the top by Melvin. They didn't even run plays for him really. Well they did that TCU game and embarrassing an opponent like that was really not called for. That's not the kind of representation I want from my team.

And an Academic All-American? Gross. If I was going to cheer for nerds I'd go watch Grinnell.

Correct. Those are no brainers. Especially since they aren't retiring their number; just hanging their jersey.

We argue over guys like Marcus Garrett (won National Defensive PoY but was never even 1st team All Big 12 or Wiggins/Embiid (NBA success but didn't meet the criteria while at Kansas).

If a player wins Conference PoY, especially in this conference, or is a 1st team All American, he should be honored. If you aren't doing that kind of stuff then you aren't showing the legacy of your program to future recruits. They are looking up there on their visit and seeing no names that they recognize and thinking that no one has done anything of note for ISU in their lifetime and questioning whether or not they can achieve to that level there.

That said, Ejim wasn't that long ago. Kansas still has not honored 2012 winner Thomas Robinson, 2017 winner Frank Mason, 2018 winner Devonte Graham or 2020 winner Udoka Azubuike. They 100% will at some point. I don't think Okie State has honored 2010 winner James Anderson or 2013 winner Marcus Smart yet.

So it's certainly not weird that ISU hasn't done it YET, but it's weird if there is no plans to do it.

The logic of "If he transfered after his junior year" might be the dumbest arguement in the history of the internet. We can play that game with any player we have ever had. What if Georges Transfered after his freshman year. What if Monte Transfered. It's such a stupid Debate. He didn't transfer. He is one of our top players ever.
Monte and George were awesome right out of the gate. To say they were forgetful is laughable.

Monte Morris freshman year:

6.8 PPG, 3.7 APG, 2.6 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 0.2 BPG in 28.1 minutes per game.

Georges Niang freshman year:

12.1 PPG, 1.8 APG, 4.6 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG in 25.1 minutes per game.

Melvin Ejim freshman year:

10.3 PPG, 1.2 APG, 6.7 RPG, 1.2 SPG, 0.2 BPG in 27.8 minutes per game.

Seems like all of them were solid out of the gate.

Yeah I'm done lol There no changing your mind if you think Ejim was on par with Niang and Morris as a freshman.

Does Grinnell still run that run and gun offense? I was always going to go watch a game of it and never did.

I’m simply shocked people could possibly be so emphatically against Ejim getting his jersey retired.
Yeah I don't get it, I don't think anyone is saying we should retire any numbers, but hand his jersey is a no brainer.

You are 0/2 on your dumb arguments against Ejim, so maybe try a 3rd or bow out.

People outside of ISU thought Ejim was the best player in a really good 10 team league and one of the top 10 players in the country.

Just curious, the last was Hoiberg. Do you think Fred’s Jersey or anybody since should be up there?
