I should say "self-overrated". They are putting themselves in the job-tier of USC, LSU, and OU. Sure it's objectively a better job than Iowa St but they aren't who they think they are. They think their one playoff berth makes them super special and they seemed to think Campbell was going to leave Iowa St without blinking?
I think its substantially better than ISU. I know we have a great fan base, but the Huskies still outdrew us this year even in a very bad year like Blum mentioned in the podcast. They have a very large population base, are the big dogs in the state, have history, and rabid never-die fans. Its a very good job with advantages that teams like OU don't even have. They should be a lot better.

Oh I agree for sure it's a good job, it's just not on the USC/OU/LSU/ tier. If you read their boards and tweets they can't fathom why Campbell wouldn't automatically leave for them and they are offended by that.

UW: 62k in a 70.1k stadium
ISU: 60.7k in a 61.5k stadium

Its somewhat widely thought to be a top 20ish job. The fact that Washington averaged 60,000 in a year where it was a dumpster fire since Week One that only grew and was never put out tells you that they're fan base can just about match us for loyalty.

It sucks to say but yeah, its a better job.... that said, I think Campbell fits better at Iowa State but its pretty clearly a better job for the reasons mentioned

Unless something has happened that soured Matt Campbell on Iowa State then he's not leaving for very many other jobs. And he can never be allowed to leave for money. No matter what it takes we have to pay him. We can't afford not to.

The Apple Cup is normally a must see game as it basically covers the entire state (like our Cy-Hawk).

I agree but there is a limit to the money part. Some schools just have much deeper pockets.

Now thankfully I have never gotten the impression that its all about the money or that money is even a major factor although lets not be unrealistic and think its not a factor somewhere. Its just thankfully not giant factor it might be for other coaches.

Washington has two National Championships, most recently 1991. For context, UGA last won in 1980. Notre Dame last won in 1988.

We pull similar attendance, but fill a larger percentage of our stadium. Washington is top 20 all time in win percentage. They’ve put many guys in the nfl.

It’s a good job, in a high population city that has a rabid sports fandom. Being rich in the PNW would be awesome from a lifestyle standpoint.

Call it eastern bias, but unless you’re pulling the best out of California, I don’t see how the high school talent in WA, OR, ID, NV really stacks up to the core Midwestern states.

Lots of people would objectively pick UW over ISU, but not everyone.

It’s a cool place but Good God it’s remote. It takes a day to get there from everywhere.

I think recruiting might be one area where it falls off as a job. You would be a long way from any big recruiting area and the PAC struggles to attract TV audiences because of the time zone. It might be a job best for someone who wants to be in that part of the country.
