Not sure why his religion matters, but according to an article in the newspaper for the Diocese of Des Moines(The Catholic Mirror) prior to him speaking at a Catholic men’s conference, Matt Campbell is Catholic.

I was just curious about the connection with ND. If Catholic that would explain it a bit. But the only thing I knew was that he was from Ohio.. just wondered why people connected him with ND over OSU.

I believe he grew up cheering for ND. Even named one of his kids Rudy.

South Bend to Toledo is only like a 2 hour drive. South Bend to Cleveland is only like a four hour drive. I’ve drive further to go to ISU games.

No surprise here but Pete Thamel says Campbell and Luke Fickell would be at the top of the list for Michigan if they moved on from Harbaugh.

Here are the openings Thamel says could potentially open next year.
Would LSU really have that quick of a trigger on a guy that just won the NC?

There could be eight programs in 2021 that have openings that have won or played for national titles since 1997 – Michigan, Texas, USC, Nebraska, Auburn, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and, perhaps, LSU if they stay wedged in the lower half of the SEC West. The others that could potentially crowd the 2021 market: UCLA, Duke, Syracuse, Kansas, Pittsburgh, TCU, Illinois and Arizona.

None of those spots scream “MATT CAMPBELL!!!”to me. ND, OSU, Browns, Steelers and to a lesser extent PSU would be the ones to watch imo.

I listend to the horns 247 podcast and the guy said that Campbell told Pollard that he will only ever leave for ND or OSU. Is this true, or is that dude speaking out of his ass?

Probably out of his ass that Campbell actually said it but makes sense to me. Also everything is subject to change in college coaching.

UM is the only one I'm actually worried about.

PSU seems like a long shot, but that would really suck having both him and Cael there...

I would tend to believe that if that tidbit of convo was real we'd have heard about it here first?

Before some random guy in BevoVille?
If that conversation happened, no one would have heard about it. Both Campbell and Pollard are as secretive as they come. Which one would "leak" that?

I don't think any of these reporters know anything more than any of us do.

Wow, I read some posts on the Texas board about Campbell and Meyer and others, you want to talk about not only a clueless fanbase, but also a delusional one. Those guys are something else. I mean they are almost at the point of believing they can raise Bear Bryant from the dead and have him beg to be the Texas coach.
Some of the hot takes:
Campbell has lost games so we dont want him
Campbell isnt good enough, hasnt done enough, isnt sexy enough. just because he can win in the Big 12 isnt good enough. So what if he can win at ISU. and more.
Its Meyer or no one.
Cristobal was ok but he lost a game, so hes not good enough anymore.
the list is Meyer, Brian Kelly, Saban, Swinney, Shanahan, anyone not in this league is not good enough. And they actually think these people will drop everything and run to Texas.
Oooof what a fanbase.

This is why personally, if I am CMC I would never want to go to a place like this. One bad year and they turn on you. Your good years are not good enough unless you are the 1 and only team in the country winning the National championships. Anything other than that and its not good enough. Its a great goal, but to expect it and demand it is quite a different thing. CMC can build something great here, He can win here, and he can become a great here, without those insane expectations.
Shanahan as in Kyle? JFC these dudes never learn. On the bright side I remembered the other day they wanted Mike McCarthy to replace Mack Brown and there's a shot he's available after this year. Lets do that one Texas
