Anyone else disgusted with the officials?

I've always thought Janssen is tougher on the Iowa teams, particularly ISU, being he is from here and is still a high profile national referee for 25+ years. He always bends over backwards to show folks that even though he's from the one of the most Cyclone parts of Iowa, he will not show any favoritism.

Which would be great, except it amounts--often in my opinion--in his swallowing his whistle against ISU except in some of the most egregious cases.

I didn't remotely think any of the officials were out to get ISU like some are claiming, but it was a poorly officiated game. If they are going to allow the kids to play, then let them play. If they are going to call it tight, call it tight. But it must be consistent either way, otherwise it turns into a circus like the game we watched tonight that barely resembles the game of hoopsketball. Great win that showed moxie when it was lacking. But I'll rest easier when Janssen (or the rest of Big12 officials) isn't around.

Correct. The tick tack BS in the half court while allowing near assault on the press.

I can't really speak to the disparity of fouls but it seemed like the refs may have had an edict from the Big 12 to keep this game under control considering the way last year's game at WVU went. It would've been nice if they would have let them play the last 5 minutes straight up but the foul fest ended up working out in our favor.

You can't overlook the numbers on what we committ per game, versus them, and how the game ended. There were blown calls all over the court, mostly for them in the press. It was a joke. Hogue got completely run over on two blocking fouls. It wasn't close. We were 20 points better tonight, and that's what it will take in Lawrence. The conference has to be scared to play and press us after this game on tape.

Hogue got hosed all game. He may not have actually committed a foul. The worst of all though was his 4th where he just decided to let his guy blow by him to avoid a foul. Didn't work. Foul called anyway.

Game summary:
We got called when we were trying to avoid fouls.
They were trying to foul on purpose and got called for less.
ISU still won because we have an offense and WVU does not except for one solid dude.

Studies have shown that refs are susceptible to things like home court/field. Im glad we were able to persevere. Good effing win againgst the odds.

I don't think anyone was out to get ISU, that's just how a WVU game will get called this year. An insane amount of fouls but they'll let them get by with grabbing the other team all the way down the floor because of Huggins and their press. It was a pretty oddly officiated game.

Considering ISU averages 14 fouls a game, led the nation in opponents trips to the charity stripe (i'm not sure what it is now, but for awhile our opponents weren't shooting many free throws) and some how we committed 27 fouls. I'm still trying to figure out how they managed less personal fouls than us despite riding the backs of every ISU player.

Nope, each game presents different adversity, sometimes you don't get the calls or calls go against you.

Glad that the basketball team played through it.

Watch the MBB Highlights vs WVU (ESPN2) on cyclones.com. 2:35 - 2:41. WVU player in-bounding the ball well before he is established out of bounds. Clearly a violation. The referee is in direct sight of the play. I hope the supervisor of officials brings this play up with the referees from tonight's game.

Eh, this play happens about every game and is rarely called.

The seemed so unfair and WV slanted I'm still steaming about it. I hope they never officiant 1 of our games again. They were NOT calling things the same both ways.
Just assume that everyone is always disgusted with the officials.

Officiating didn't seem to favor one side or the other to me. Usually doesn't.

Great win.

Go Cyclones!

All of them... All of the fouls ever. Because Kansas.
Lowly Texas Tech was in the double bonus with 9 minutes left in the first half yesterday. 26 fouls called against the two teams in the first half. Ridiculous, unwatchable basketball. If they want to know how to increase scoring in college basketball they should stop calling all the pointless ticky tack fouls which do nothing but reset the shot clock and let a team burn more time standing around waiting for the next whistle. The refs are out of control with their whistles these first few games of Big 12 play. CLEARLY there has been some type of communication sent down to the Big 12 refs to call everything even remotely resembling a foul. Driving home from the KU game I was listening to the Texas game and then the OU game and they both were having the same problem. TOO MUCH.
