Anyone have a recommendation for a Des Moines area arborist/tree doctor? Have some bigger pine trees that are dying that I'd rather not lose. White goo on trunk and similar spots on needles.

I don't have experience with multiple vendors, but my neighborhood HOA uses Xtreme Tree for both maintenance/trimming (just had a bunch of crabs trimmed) and removal as needed. They've been good to work with.

We had adelgids (insects) on some pines of ours a number of years ago. I think they are fairly common and not all that dangerous to the trees. I was able to spray ours off with dormant oil. You can treat them in the fall to prevent nymphs over the winter

*edit - here's an article

Arbor Masters of Des Moines does good work. The person I worked with was very passionate about their work and not just looking to maximize their profit.

Spider mites go after pines. I think there's stuff you can sprinkle around to deter them.

My neighbor lost 2 white pines in the last 2 years. Slow process. They were only about 10 years old . No other shrubs or trees were affected.

Hopefully these are not scotch pine or austrian pine. Those varieties suffer from scotch pine wilt. Always fatal with no treatment. It hits when they are just reaching their prime.

I have felled about 30 dead scotch pine on my acreage. The previous owners loved them and over planted them in 2000. Downing and burning the dead ones quickly has prolonged the life of some of the others.
