Are there any CFers that are members at Echo Valley CC in Des Moines?

How is it? Good number of Cyclones? What’s the age spread like? How nice is each of the 9’s out there? What is the COVID precaution vibe?

Worked there in the 90s (**** Im getting old) and have played some events there over the last few years.

The newer 9 “The Ridge” is pretty darn awesome and having 27 holes would be nice. I would say the membership is a little more blue collar then the other Clubs in DSM but nothing wrong with that. Plenty of spots on “The Creek” 9 to smoke weed without anyone giving you grief. Club house is decent and I see Mathias is the Club Pro so that is a positive.

Nothing beats the view from the patio at Hyperion though. I could drink beer there every night and not get tired of the view.

I've played there a lot. Tons of Cyclone fans out there. Heft is a member

I’ve never played there, but I’ve played just about every other course in the DSM metro public and private. What course would you compare the course quality to? Is it closer to say, Copper Creek level, or closer to Hyperion level?

You seem like more of a Des Moines Golf or Glen Oaks type of guy.

If we move back to DSM I’ve narrowed it down to Hyperion and Echo. I did some mapping (we would probably be located S. Of Grand, Ingersoll/Polk Blvd area, or Waterbury). I didn’t realize how convenient Echo was to those locations so that is why I’ve zeroed in on it.

My dad (retired, in his 60s) was a member of Echo Valley but just switched to DM Golf this year. He really liked that course, but it was hard for him to find a group that could play regularly, plus he knows more people at DM Golf.

Edit: South Grand rocks. My family loves it here (Westwood Neighborhood)

I'll second the Westwood neighborhood - I miss that old house.

@Gunnerclone talked to my Chiro yeserday who is a member of Echo. He said if playing golf is your #1 priority then Echo is the place for u since they have 27 holes and practice facilities are top notch. If you are looking for more of a social atmosphere then Hyperion is the better choice but said cant go wrong at either place.

Appreciate the info. I still have the small detail of actually moving back to DSM before I can get there but good to know!
