Well that is interesting. I was on their campus a few weeks ago on our baseball teams spring trip. Went to the ASU-Texas Tech Baseball game, which is right next to the football field. Thought it was cool how the stadium was built into a mountain, but I think this will take away from that look.

Not exactly sure.
Dont think I would want to be in the upper rows of this oven. I know its in the shade but it is still outside in the heat.

Agreed, ive been there a couple times, this will take away from the distinctive feel it had.

This. Yes you keep the sun out but the extreme heat will get trapped in. It's going to cost a ton of money and take years to complete...I just don't think it's a wise investment. If they want to play day games in September, they'll have to build a new stadium with a retractable roof, that's the only way they could effectively deal with the heat...this canopy thing is going to kind of look like a joke

No kidding. All of that body and outside heat is going to be trapped in that thing. I would think it makes the whole place hotter.

Remember AZ is a much dryer heat. The effect of heat being 'trapped' is significantly lessened with a lower humidity. Plus, people may augment the cooling effect by misting themselves and letting the dry air evaporate it.

However, the first haboob to come along may rip off the entire structure.

Good point. If it hails, the hailstones will pop holes in it. And if it gets windy, it might lift the whole stadium away.

On the road...
I'm all for it. The first four games last year were unbearable. Sept 1st game was 112 at kick off, Sept 9th was 102, Sept 24th was 107 and Oct 1st was 97. It's even worse tailgating on the blacktop! I miss Ames in the fall!
