If it was a night game, I'd say stay home...all day drinking Tavern Hawks or Squawkeye students are complete a-holes, win or lose. Obnoxious if they win...angry poor sports if they lose. But, if you don't get caught up in Hawkeye rah rah propaganda and respond to it...you'll be fine with 2:30 starts.

Only time for me was also the Seneca come back game. Game was fine, and obviously ended well for ISU…. but walking back to the car afterwards was not good at all. There were full beer cans flying. I think it’s probably safer if ISU loses…. then they are in a better mood.

I Will never go back to that hell hole. I had crappy experiences both times by fans and cops. 1 time I deserved from the cops. The other time getting jumped in the bathroom not my fault, yes cops were involved again. Didnt get arrested either time I guess. But **** that place. This was also around the time Seneca brought us back. Was I dumb and 20 ish sure. But nah not going back.

I'll be there as well. It's not that bad if you have thick skin. Did get a full beer can chucked at me 10 years ago but that was after we won and the guy missed me by about 10 feet paying tribute to their QB play. I will say if we do win, don't instigate anything because a fight could happen, but if you get **** first, rub their face in the loss.
Could have been a basketball ode to CMac too.

STD’s, OWI’s and all the other 3 letter abbreviations. But seriously have had beer bottles thrown at me in my youth towards student tailgating and some nasty aholes. Other times just the usual in your face F State and ok. But doesn’t matter if your a little kid or elderly, you’ll get the same treatment.

I attended my first Iowa/ISU game in Iowa City in 1998. I will never forget that day. My uncle took me and my cousins and I was the only Cyclone fan in the group and basically in our section. It was a day to remember. I was also there the year Seneca Wallace beat them and Brad Banks fumbled every snap. I have only tailgated there since and not gone to the game, it hasn't been too bad. There is always the annoying drunk fans.

Semi unrelated but the stories about Iowa fans in this thread reminds me of when some hawk fan in front of me got mad because I (a 15 year old at the time) yelled/clapped too loud during an ISU-Iowa game at Jack Trice

I’ve gone to the last five ISU/Iowa games. Parked in the ramp or on Melrose Court. Melrose Court was fun, students would yell “F*ck State”, we just yelled back, “Jesus still loves you!” Totally threw them off. A few said, “that’s the best come back ever!” and came over and drank with us.

Two years ago drunk gal tried to give me the business after we won. Her friend was trying to pull her away. Young college gal at that. I just kept telling to, “ I bet your parents would be proud to see you like this.” Really had a good time when we went. Walked around to some Hawk tailgates and they let us party with them.

Just be cool, don’t cause a scene, and you’ll be fine. Since we have no one in school there now, we decided to quit going.

You should be fine at the game; don't miss it if we win think of that you were there! The only drawback could be 100 CCs of CC and overdose may be a thing.

I've been going to Iowa City for the ISU/IA for about 20 years. The older I get(41 now) the more IA fans leave me alone. You will definitely get "**** ISU" and "Go Hawks! directed at you, but unlikely much else as long as you don't initiate or entice IA fans.

Usually, I cheer for my team and keep to myself and friends during the game and it's a good time. During tailgating, I enjoy going and talking to fans on both sides. Most IA fans just want to have a good time just like you.

The walk down Melrose before and after the game is where things can get unruly, but only it the banter get to you.
