Attending my first Cy Hawk game in Iowa City. What do i need to know/ be aware of?

Small town insecure guys, combined with Chicago suburb posers and wannabes. All want to prove how tough they are, because inside they know they aren't. Just the worst.
And the women are about the same...
I get what some people are saying on here. Keep your head down and don't antagonize and you'll be fine. Might catch a stray beer can, but the chances are low there. What I don't get are these people who get in your face hoping you'll say something to escalate it into a fight. Hell, they beat us 3/4 of the time...where does all this hatred come from? And why don't their actual good fans police that stuff? I despise the hawks, but I'm not going to find some totally random person and go run my mouth to them. What's the point of that?
2018 the band was there and shoved up top. 2019 was bandgate. 2022 was the first game in Kinnick without ISU band.
Kinda late, but I only went once in 1977 when the series renewed. Lost 12-10 and decided to never go back. I’m sure it’s better now!
Yep, they want to fight you if you don’t wave the whole song. You just hope it’s not freebird or your arm will fall off.
Can't be said better. Never happened to me anywhere else but happened like 5 times on the way into the stadium the one time I went there. I was stone sober and walking in with my wife. I just don't understand that meathead stuff.
Me too. I was the young guy in the ISU shirt. Sitting in the stands. It was glorious. We probably high-fived each other afterwards. I want another one like that (even if I don't attend in person) in my lifetime.
That was one of my favorite experiences as a Cyclone fan. Almost everyone in the stadium, including some ISU fans, thought the game was over and we stayed the course and ripped the rug out from underneath of them. That FG kick will also go down as one of my favorite plays of all time given the circumstances. There were also so many fans that stayed after the game to take in the atmosphere.
Best part of the day though outside of the actual gameplay was us walking out and giving the players some high fives who were up on the concourse. There was an O-lineman who I wasn't able to see his jersey number but he was on the phone and as we were walking by him he said "Thank you so much, love you grandma." Brought some tears to my eyes as I got to briefly listen to a very wholesome moment.

I'm pretty sure I'm correct in saying they never crossed the 50 yard line. It was that dominant of a defensive/ST performance.
Ditto. Every word of that. Not sure how girlfriends dad got tickets, they were pretty sought after.
My first game in Lincoln was the 9-7 win. We were by ourselves in the North End zone. The "meanest" thing someone said was "put your sweatshirt back on. I can't stare at that all game" referencing my old Gold Rules "Beat Nebraska" T Shirt. They were whole heartedly joking. Once the game kicked off my buddy and I were yelling to punt on 1st down and the fans around us kept saying we needed to give our "guys a chance." After the game not a single negative thing was said our direction. In fact every fan that did say something just said thanks for coming and they hoped we enjoyed our time.
I’ll never forget that 9-7 win in Lincoln, the CPR “I’m so Proud” game. The picture I distinctly remember is looking down on the outside street after the game. When the game was over, not a sound was heard. They rose to their feet and silently filed out of the stadium. When I got to the aisle, I looked outside and it was packed with solid red shoulder to shoulder and it was eerily silent. Except for me….I was yelling down at our players & CPR who were gleefully walking out right below me. One of my Cyclone high lights and I’ve seen the Clones beat Nebbie in Ames. There fans are respectful in Lincoln.
What good fans? 95% are douches. And if the other 5% speak up they get the same treatment as Cyclone fans do.
I was dating a girl from Kansas city a long time ago and she moved in with my friend and I in ames. She couldn't understand why my friend and I always rooted for teams like michigan, Minnesota etc over a team from Iowa. The next year we went to kinnick for the football game and we took her. We told her by the end of the day you will understand. On the way home she said ok I get it. We aren't together anymore but we are still friends and to this day she hates the iowa hawkeyes.
My wife went to a game there before we started dating. She wore an ISU shirt because she was living in Ames going to dmacc. Sat in the student section with friends. She knew nothing about football and I can guarantee she wasn’t cheering. Just there for the party. Got food thrown at her. Hated the Hawkeyes ever since.
