Lemme see if I can find the article Iowa State put out saying that the percentage of students working part time jobs is continually rising. Last time I checked, if you're working, you have less time for everything else.

Its all about priorities. I had 3 jobs my junior and senior year and worked 30 hours a week total...no ****. I never missed a game. And I kept my GPA up. Make it a priority and it will happen. My biggest regret as a student was that I didn't take one entire football season and go to EVERY game home and away. Next chance I will get to do that will probably be in my 60's.

I'm a student and this pisses me off. of all the reasons i can think of to miss a bball game none of them have to do with school. it's called grow some balls and get your hw done after the game even if it takes you till 3 in the morning.

Hey ******* I'm a student too. I go to the games. It doesn't change anything, it was a weekday game against nobody after 5+ years of terrible basketball.

I never said anything about school either, my post said "stuff" because work, school and intramurals all happen during the week.

Get down off your high horse, I've pulled more all nighters this semester than in any of the 6 before it. I GO to the games, I'm defending those who don't and attacking the presumptuous, sarcastic title of this thread.

The bottom line is that we haven't had a good basketball team in 5+ years. There has been very little if any excitement for a while with our basketball program. That is why attendence now sucks.

BUT, student excuses are LAME! Students waste more time than they could even begin to know what to do with it. I would know, I just graduated last May. I wasted more than my fair amount of time. CycloneFanatic, Facebook, movies, naps, drinking, video games, girlfriend :wideeyed:, hunting, fishing, etc, etc, etc... And I worked 20 hours per week. And I was an engineering major. Yet, I still went to 100% of the football games and 90+% of MBB games and probably 50-60% of WBB games. I don't want this to seem like a "I'm the best fan" post, but somehow I was able to waste all of that time, study, go to games, and graduate from college.

Students don't go because they don't care enough, not because they are too busy.

These activities are fun, and hence, very popular. Until the word spreads about "new" basketball, people will stay home.

Not to make excuses for the students, lord knows they make enough on their own....but to be fair....the last four years all they have been fed about the recent past is what a criminal Wayne Morgan was and how GMAC basically fell into a situation not unlike a "death penalty" for college athletics. Were told that the coach before the criminal, although he had a couple of real good years was basically an average coach......and an excellent drunk. Were told that ISU has never been a basketball school, and that GMAC will build it the "right way". Basically....tear down and trash anything good in the past......to justify and excuse what was happening at the moment.

So if I was a student now, who bought into what was being served up the last four years.....I wouldn't come either. I would have no idea exactly what these old geesers talk about when talking of "Hilton Magic". I would have no idea why I wait in line, or get to the games early to scream my guts out for a team that would have a hard time beating an above average high school team on the road....because I know they could beat the Lakers at Hilton! I would have no idea what's it's like to have players from Oklahoma State, or Kansas say how they felt the floor shake. Or be such a thorn in the side of Kansas that their star player slams the ball down after they finally win at Hilton......and flips the crowd off. Or what it's like to yell at the the opposing coach to sit down. Or have the band, while the opposing player attempts a free throw yell something corny like "BEHOLD......THE POWER OF CHEESE"! All I know is that the guy I was told it going to do it the "right way"........is gone. Why go support someone who is said to be some Cyclone legend a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away? I mean that's the only reason he has the job. Because the old timers, right? I mean really, the guy has never been a coach. C'mon!

Got a good laugh out of all that. I just want to say "trust me" it was great and can be again, but that never worked when my parents told me that either.

Oh well. I know Fred Hoiberg and his family. I think we're in as good of hands as we'll get.

I am watching the KU North Texas State game. Full and loud student section. Makes ours look pathetic.

Maybe we could offer free pencils and protractors and let the students study at the game. Win, Win.

Oh yeah, and beer.
