Oh, I was there. I've missed 3 home games since 2007.
It easy to accumulate posts when you can surf at work.
Or people want those 3 hours to study? Its a cold day in hell before I miss a game, but people criticizing people who choose to try to do better academically are morons.
Additionally, the number of students who have jobs vs the number who don't is higher now than it ever has been in the past. Students don't have as much time as they used to.
And still no one has fought my analysis from games as a younger kid that these games have never and probably will never be packed. The people here are on CycloneFanatic. They aren't the issue. Wish I had the pictures from games when I was younger. Students and adults alike have never packed Hilton for these games, and some of those were when we were actually a respectable program!
Ha ha, absolutely pathetic. I don't care if someone has 3 tests the next day, I'll never be convinced that you can't set aside 2 hours (or in the case of last night, leave at halftime and only go for one hour) to go support the basketball team. I know not everyone is blaming this on class/studying but those who are claiming those excuses are complete jokes.
I would agree at JTS about the student section being the cheapest... but at hilton.. students get much better seats for that 125 than you do for the $99 corner seats. Parquet is normally what, $2500 min donation plus about $500\ticket? Id say students still get a pretty good deal for the seats.
While I agree that the student turnout so far this season has been pathetic, remember we were a terrible team last season, with 3 players that people "know" and we have only played 3 games so far. Tickets are also quite expensive if your parents do not choose to pay for them, and if you have to add in CycloneAlley membership you are looking at appx. $150. All of you while in school would agree that this isnt just some small amount of cash and even if students do pay this, odds are they need to work to make this money, and probably had to work on a monday night depending on their jobs.
All of you "old" people complaining on these boards about how bad the students have been should either donate money to reduce the costs of student tickets, convince your friends to show up to the games, or actually cheer at the games so it isnt as pitiful as the last few have been.
Complaining on a message board solves zero of the problems facing the attendance problem, so maybe go and actually do something about it.
Thanks.

Very valid points but a lot of the older people will tell you we suffered through the Walden years in football. Hell, I made every home football game during my tenure at ISU. I sat through the 0-10-1 season. Talk about painful. losses to UNI, Western Michigan and Rice. Ugh.I go to all the games (I'm in the band), but it's really exhausting hearing you guys rail on the students.
Guess what? Basketball has never been good. I'm a senior, here's some reference:
I've never seen an ISU team advance past the first round of the B XII tournament.
I've never heard ISU mentioned in tournament talk.
I've never seen ISU beat a ranked opponent in Hilton.
I've never seen a close game against Kansas.
I could go on, but I wont. Basketball has not been good MY ENTIRE COLLEGE CAREER and you guys expect students to come out? I can't blame "fringe fans" for staying home and playing Halo/COD over a basketball game because based on the last four years Halo IS better.
I can't wait to see a good ISU team. But until I do, I'm not blaming anyone for doing anything else.

I don't have an issue witht he turnout last night. Like somone said, throughout our history, the turnout was poorer during preconference play. I think at one time you could even buy tickets for non conference, conference or full season. I just think a lot of the excuses are just that..excuses
Football is mainly on Saturdays and is 5-7 times a year, not any day of the week 18 times
Yes, because those of us who are full time students and work 30+ hours/week on the side have all the time in the world! **** off dude.
Well aren't you just awesome tough guy. Such an awesome team player! Like above, you can also **** off. I'm by no means an A student but I am enough of a person to not make excuses to a group because of a pointless basketball game. School > Athletics. Always has been, always should be.
Bike rack. Next game.
Football is also played outside in the elements so there are plenty of excuses. Having watched both, it was much more difficult to watch the 0-10-1 season than any MBB season. I could care less if people miss games. Just saying excuses are excuses. Just say you prioritize class over the game. Or you prioritize drinking last weekend over the game. If people really wanted to make the game, they could have changed their schedule to make it happen unless they worked or had class. That is all I am saying.
My relative missed the game last night to write a paper but had time to go drinking all weekend. He prioritized drinking over the game. I have no problem with that but when he said he missed the game to write a paper, I call BS. He put the paper off until the last minute so he could do other things. He also watched the game on a computer at the library so obviously, he had the time for the game but chose not to go for some reason.
I've seen the remark on this thread that non-conference games have never been packed. I've gotta call BS on that. I remember when I was there in the late 80s/early 90s that the non-conference games were quite packed.
We had roaming tickets as students. You never passed up seats near the floor. I remember a game against SUNY Buffalo. We won 106-36, the place was packed. Thigpen and Bayless were our guards at the time, it was the same season we beat KU when Adonis Jordan commented that the floor was shaking when he missed the freethrows in the final minute of the game that sealed their fate.
Students were spread out all over Hilton back then, and the crowds were not nearly as sparse as they've been the last several years.
I liked the roaming tickets and really think it added to the atmosphere. I think putting students in amongst 40-60 years olds energizes everyone. The older fans fed off the students more because they were right there with them. No inuslt meant as I am almost 40 myself. I guess I will never understand why Cyclone Alley was created. I guess I go back to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." We had one of the best atmospheres in college basketball and they changed it. Why?
If our team's current pace continues into next year (January), the attendance problem will fix itself. Students and the general public alike.
This. It took more than three games for basketball attendance to fall as much as it has. It will take more than three games for it to return to where it was.
