im hoping to make it to a few games this year but this semester had been brutal. i've had at least one test for the past 8 or 9 weeks along with projects and papers and whatever else. this week alone ive had 2 tests, a paper, and one spanish chapter assignment that is worth what 25-30 assignments usually is. we dont all have jobs that are 9-5 M-F and have the rest of the time off. hopefully next semester is a little less demanding and i can make it to some games but until this semester is over myself (and quite a few others i know) dont have the time to make it to a game against a no name alabama state team

I made a similar remark last year about going back to what originally created Hilton Magic, mix the students back in with the crowd. I was attacked by the pro Alley students at the time. I felt the same as you, it energized everybody.

The teams back then weren't spectacular teams that were ranked, but we held home court. We need to get that back. Every year you hear commentators comment about Hilton Magic...it hasn't been there in awhile.

Just so I am clear, I have no issue with the current students or any student in Cyclone Alley. My issue is with the people that made the change and ruined a good thing. I just have never ever understood the reasoning.

It's been brutal for me, too. I've made the games, but it's brutal either way.

I sympathize with your schedule. I hope it works out better.

I'm not sure that anyone that has a 9-5 (as you call it...doesn't exist anymore) gets the rest of the time off. I'm at the director-level (exempt salary status, do what it takes to get the job done, laptop at home, working when kids go to bed) in corporate America. I'm a single dad, with custody of my kids. I've been to each home b-ball game so far and all but one home football game. I enjoy going to the games, and now with an 8 and a 10 year old I can bring them to the games with me. It costs me alot of cash throughout the year, but that's a line item I plan for. Just sayin' I could make plenty of excuses........

ATTENTION: We have stuff to do during the week. Thanks.

I'm a student and this pisses me off. of all the reasons i can think of to miss a bball game none of them have to do with school. it's called grow some balls and get your hw done after the game even if it takes you till 3 in the morning.

Understand. However it is much easier for students to attend. They live across the street for God's sake. They don't have families to worry about paying for. They don't have mortgages yet. Tickets are relatively cheap, and probably already paid as part of season tickets. Don't have parking to worry about. This is their fellow students they should be supporting, good or bad. They are the ones that should have the most school spirit.

But yes, everyone should be picking up attendence.

So your problem is with the freshman. I am currently a senior and I cannot stand cyclone alley. I just buy the 99 dollar balcony tickets instead.

You're headed for a big dose of the real world when you graduate. You'll wish you had all the free time you did in college.

Yeah, the days of sleeping until 9:00, coming home from class for the day at 1:00, having a Hot Pocket for lunch, playing a little NBA Jam, and then taking a nap for an hour or so are all over until I'm in my 60s.

I'm vindicated! I "proved" this speed of light phenomena in Physics 222 lab oh so many years ago. How many hours are in student days now? 20? 22? Ah, the good old days when we used to have 24 hours/day.

Lemme see if I can find the article Iowa State put out saying that the percentage of students working part time jobs is continually rising. Last time I checked, if you're working, you have less time for everything else.

I think this comes down to money. Everyone can agree that tution has skyrocketed in the past few years. A lot of students are going to think twice about spending over 100 bucks to see a team picked to finish last in the Big 12.

Put a winning team on the floor and the money won't matter.

Oh please.....School has always been expensive for students.

Listen all these same reasons for not not going could have been thrown around in all the different decades we've played basketball at ISU. Some kids choose to go, some don't. That's fine with me. Just don't try to say that it's any harder to go now than it has been at any other time.

The bottom line is that we haven't had a good basketball team in 5+ years. There has been very little if any excitement for a while with our basketball program. That is why attendence now sucks.

BUT, student excuses are LAME! Students waste more time than they could even begin to know what to do with it. I would know, I just graduated last May. I wasted more than my fair amount of time. CycloneFanatic, Facebook, movies, naps, drinking, video games, girlfriend :wideeyed:, hunting, fishing, etc, etc, etc... And I worked 20 hours per week. And I was an engineering major. Yet, I still went to 100% of the football games and 90+% of MBB games and probably 50-60% of WBB games. I don't want this to seem like a "I'm the best fan" post, but somehow I was able to waste all of that time, study, go to games, and graduate from college.

Students don't go because they don't care enough, not because they are too busy.

Ok, we can all admit attendance has sucked. But let's look to a conference rival for comparison.

Mizzou arena capacity: 15,061
Mizzou basketball team ranking: 14th
Mizzou average 2010/2011 home announced attendance thus far: 8,176

So, despite the awful last five years, we are still selling more tickets than a top 20 program. Missouri is ranked 14th and they are barely selling 50% of their available seats!

Things are bad everywhere, not just ISU.

Mizzou is #14 in basketball? That's interesting. Must have a heck of a recuiting class.

and somehow texas is top 25 after they failed at the end of last year

They are beating Illinois right now, but I'm sure they'll come crashing back down to reality soon like they normally do. Mizzou seemed awfully over-rated tonight with their close win against Western Illinois.
