I noticed that Harrison Barnes took another unofficial this past weekend. Is there any rules on amount of those to one particular school? Seems like he's taken one every home game and will probably continue to through the basketball season. I really like it if it's O.K. because it gives him the ability to play with the team and would love to keep him here in Ames.

I think you can take as many unofficial visits as you want, but it's the official visits that have a limit.

What exactly makes a visit "official"? What kinds of things are they not allowed to do on an "unofficial" that they can on an "official"?

With an unofficial nothing is paid for. Travel, meals, tickets etc.
Kinda nice he lives in Ames.

I found this article that has him mention with a paragraph in it

Two of the top 2010 players in the Midwest were also in town on Saturday. Leading the way was Harrison Barnes, a 6-foot-5 wing player from Ames. While most people think that Barnes is a lock for Iowa State, and that could very well end up being true, the fact that he came to Iowa City on his own dime to check out the Hawkeyes is certainly an indication of some level of interest.

Having seen Barnes play this summer, it will be a big surprise if he doesn't end up being a Top 50 prospect in the 2010 class. He has offers from Iowa and Iowa State and this week he is expecting Wisconsin and Purdue to take a closer look as they visit Ames High School.

here is a link to the rest of the article. but I posted all the info about barnes

Well, it had to be on his OWN DIME, as he is too young to go on "official visits."

Well since Barne's Mom works at ISU. I guess you could say anytime he goes to see his mom at work he is on an unofficial visit. Now if he goes to see his mom at work and uses the Iowa State credit card to buy him a lunch. Then it's an official visit.

Has anyone seen him play? Does he really stand out? Is Ames high supposed to be any good this year?

Because we all know that Iowa City is such an expensive drive from Ames...

Does Ames have any big guys? Between Barnes and Pritchard you'd think they'd be a team that could really advance.

I went to one of the scrimmages a few weeks ago... and Barnes really stood out and to think he is only a sophomore in high school is crazy. I would say that Harrison did better than Royce White and Rodney Williams easily. Those two are the very coveted recruits from Minny. Also I would say the only person that you could tell was on a different level from Barnes was Wes Johnson.

Yeah they are stacked and they're young. They spent much of the year in the top 10 last year (I think as high as 2 or 3), and I think they only had 1 senior that played a lot for them. A top 20 Iowa player wanted to transfer to Ames and was told not to if he was only transferring for bball. I think a big part of that was that this kid would have been a senior this year.

With his mom working for the university, does anyone else worry about the possibility of some high profile basketball school somehow finding a high paying job for her in the next couple of years. It worked for Kansas with Danny Manning.

We already did it.

Actually she is an ISU grad also. She loves Ames and Iowa State.

I watched him quite a few years ago because he was on my cousin's basketball team. Barnes was heads and shoulders above everyone every year. Another kid on that team was Larry Eustachy's boy. So maybe Larry will come in trying to recruit him also.

That's Nebraska's announcement later today. His mom is going to be introduced as the Huskers' new football coach.
