In summer, Hackneys on Harms, in winter on Lake in Glenview, IL. deep fried onions are great, arteries can only take a half order every six months or so.

I heard pipe smoking, béret wearing poets (good poets no doubt) hang there-no thanks I want an American Burger with my American Fries!
Freddy's are dry. Best fast food burger is Culver's. Best burger I ever had? Family farmed cattle we get yearly over coals. Can't be touched.
Culver's is not very good.

Porters in Superior Arizona head and shoulders above everyone else. Max's Autodiner in Kansas City was No. 2 but now closed. Too many to name now in the run for 2nd.
Zombie burger is good late at night when out drinking and you realize you are getting really hammered because you forgot to eat dinner.
Have you had an Ernie's Boondock burger yet?
Quinton's could be something special with late night food but they miss the mark once in a while.
I have not, but I dont get to Des Moines very often. It's been probably 5 years since my last night there, but next time I'm drinking in Des Moines and realize I forgot to eat dinner I will give one of those a try. Might be awhile. I live 2.5 hours away now.
Many years ago at the Denison Livestock Auction, the little joint they had inside made the best cheeseburgers. I could put them away!!
I can't put Hickory Park in best burger. I think they have too much bun. Much rather have a bun that has been buttered and toasted. Dang it! Now I have Jimmie's BBQ Pit Texas Toast on the brain. His toast, just like Battle's was, is the bomb!!

Depending one where your late night escapades are, Flying Tomato on Ingersoll serves slices really late.
Me too. Half a beef, grass-fed, corn-finished. Cooked it myself on a lame propane grill, and I am not even very good griller. But the flavor of the meat was AMAZING.
Ketchup, mustard, pickles, lettuce, tomato. Maybe 1000 Island instead of k/m once in a while. Other weird things pile high are NOT a burger, they are a mess of crap on a piece of meat on a bun. I don't care for Shorts or places that do burgers like that.
runza are pretty good. i order a double without the buns and use 2 original runza sandwishes as buns. v. good
