I have a 2014 V-Star 1300 with very low miles that I am trying to sell. It pretty much looks like new and is in excellent condition. I'm getting a bit old to continue riding. Anyone have any ideas on the best way to sell a motorcycle?

First, if you live in Iowa or a mostly northern state, spring time or early summer is the best time. It's like trying to sell your snowmobile in march. You may get to use it once or twice, but not much and then a long break.

If you're married have your wife do it. It will be gone tomorrow. Not at the price you want, but it will be GONE.

Sold mine on Craigslist over 5 years ago but I would guess Facebook Marketplace would be a better bet now. Had a few tire kickers, only a couple visitors, before an interested guy drove up from Arkansas with his trailer after we messaged a few nights in a row.

Granted mine was more of a smaller, vintage (1975 Honda CB200T) than yours so I’m sure you’ll have better luck.

I would agree with FB marketplace, even though lots of scammers, lookie-loos, and just lonely nutjobs there.

Alternately, if you have a friend with a used car lot, see if they won't sell it for you and just take a cut, maybe $300-600 or something.

FB Marketplace but beware of scammers. DO NOT ship the bike or you will be scammed. I am going to assume you have the title and no lien. Something in that price range the buyer should hand you an envelope with cash in it and you give them a title and bill of sale (can get an easy template on line.) This isn't a $60k truck your selling. Make a copy of the bill of sale for you and the buyer. Take the money and go buy a trike or Can Am. You could have this bike converted to a trike if you're not quite ready to give up the wind in your face.

I've had really good luck listing on FB marketplace. What I would recommend is LOTS of good photos (always amazed at folks that have one blurry photo in the corner of a dark garage). As others have said, sometimes the time to sell is spring, but list now (if you have space to store do so).

-Have a photo or two that makes it clear it is local (maybe parked in front of a landmark in your town or something) as that shows your not a scammer
-Post a short video of you starting it and a walk around of the bike
-Have a bulleted list of what you have done to it
-Share you have title in hand
-Remind people no test rides without cash in hand
-Put a list price that allows a little wiggle room...and also create a sense of urgency for folks that inquire "Yeah, still available but a couple folks are inquiring and I've shared first cash gets it"
-Of course have an 'out the door' price
-Also, share the post on your own FB page to family/friends as you never know who knows someone who may be looking

Bought and sold a lot of motorcycles on FB Marketplace and had good luck. You'll have scammers but you can pick up on it pretty fast if they're legit or not. When you get a message check out their profile to see where they are from and see their posting history. Usually once you get a message from them and exchanged messages you can tell. This last spring I bought a bike on Marketplace and sold the bike I had prior and got a message from a guy in Ohio. I was going to discredit him pretty fast but he seemed legit, gave me his phone to call, which I did. He flew in from Ohio, I picked him up at the airport, brought him back and he paid me and left with the bike. Trust your gut and you'll be fine.
