If this is all about MONEY & GREED....why would the Other 4 conferences include the big 12 in anything....Just go with a four way split instead of a five way split.
I tend to agree, that in the end schools like Texas, Ohio State, Clemson would prefer the top level of college football include 32-40 teams. More revenue than current system and still enough teams that the 15th ranked team might go 8-4.

IMO the big issue is the OU/UT news timing now puts the Big10/Pac12 on the clock. The Big10's contract ends in 2023 and Pac12 in 2024.

How they approach negotiations is very different. The Big10 is expecting someone to back up a dump truck and throw money at them. So they can slow play negotiations and see if any Pac12/Big12/ACC schools move the TV rights $.

Whereas, seems to me the Pac12 needs to find out pretty quickly how much interest and ballpark of new deal. That tells USC, Oregon, etc if the Pac12 has a future.

Let's get the family together and quietly have a private memorial service for the Big 12.

ISU's future is in a new home with the opportunity to rub elbows with established D-1, P5 programs. In my opinion, breathing life into a new version of the Big 12 will be hard enough especially since we will have to immediately overcome a real/perceived stigma of being left behind and merely picking up the pieces.
We hope to go to a new power conference. However, the only thing that we totally control is planning for the unfavored outcome of not going to a new power conference.

There will be stigma with being left behind. However, most organizations learn to deal with stigma in some way. Also, the stigma can be minimized by showing the evidence that the Big 8 has a lot to offer. The Big 8's programs have more to offer collectively than any of the G5 conferences. With little exception, each football program has success now or has the potential for success, strong fan bases, and strong athletic department support.

If, and it's a big if, that it is everybody against the SEC, I can't see how that is bad for ISU. 0f all the "unaffiliated teams", I like our chances.

Long run, I'm wondering if this is headed to something like the AFL v NFL that eventually became today's NFL. It was financially convincing.

I realize we are "Iowa State" and the nutcup is essential, but do you really believe we wouldn't be valued in the bigger picture given the last 10 year trajectory? Given the facts we will subscribe better than most?

We are fairly powerless over which direction this all goes, but we will land well.

ESPN's decision to try to dismantle the Big 12 has blown up in its face. Not only are they facing possible enormous punitive damages, they've now also caused the other 3 P5 conferences to join forces against the SEC and blow up their scheme for a 12 team playoff for which they would own the broadcast rights.

The rest of college football is now realizing ESPN and the SEC don't hold all the power like many believe. ESPN needs the universities, not the other way around. And while the SEC may be the most powerful single conference, the SEC cannot match the power of the other conferences who've now combined forces against them.

I could certainly be wrong, but I have a strong feeling that ISU will be fine when all the dust settles. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy watching what I hope will be the greatest football season in Iowa State history.

Maryland dragged it out for two years and ended up paying I think some $20+ million less in exit fees to the ACC than was supposedly mandated by conference rules.
20.5 million, all of it plus a half million, went to attorney fees!

I'm totally guessing.

I get that. All I'm saying is if they drag it out long enough and the Big 12 disappears, short the legal fees, would they have to pay anything for leaving early and violating conference bylaws to a conference that no longer exists?
I would think they would still have to pay, to those member in the Big 12/8 at the time. Regardless if they landed in a power conference or a G5.
