Best quarterback in school history, best coach in school history, “talented” o-line, “best team in school history” proceeds to lay an absolute egg. I should have seen it coming

The last three games Have been let downs- to me they were all equally flummoxing. Not sure which direction we’re headed but know where we’re trending.

I get around
The 1976 game against Okie State was a huge letdown in more ways than one. We were 8-2 going into that game and if we win we would be tied for the Big 8 Championship and go to the Orange Bowl. Our starting quarterback, Wayne Stanley, was out of the game with an injury so we ended up losing to Okie State and fell into a fourth place tie with Nebraska.

Not only that, because we were in contention for the Orange Bowl we got overlooked for any other bowl game. One of the best, if not the best team in ISU history and no bowl.

slow your roll way down on that best coach. Earl Bruce and Johnny Majors are the best coaches. Campbell is the coach who has had the best facilities and still has trouble competing every year against lesser teams
The lack of urgency/intensity is troubling. These guys should’ve been ready to blow their collective wad, but seemed like they wanted to hold hands instead. Another sad effort that I’m tiring of.

Agree. I can’t figure out why we can’t hire a good offensive coordinator. We have a fantastic defensive coordinator. Our offense has zero identity. It seems like the line never improves.

The Cajuns are a top 25 type football team. Just stay the course and handle the BIG12. It’s a “upset” but believe me we would beat a lot of P5 teams.

I agreethat they are a good team, but we will be playing A LOT of good team in the big 12 and we couldn’t get open against man coverage. That means 2 things- we didn’t have time and/or the ability to get open vs Louisiana. That’s very troubling!

Just the tempo on offense is hard to watch. You get a couple of first downs, usually things start to get rolling, guys are flying around to get set, fly off the ball, etc. and today it was get something going but then just walk around and expect it to take care of itself.

It's baffling.

Game 1 is generally a crap shoot and doubly so this year with all the distractions and limits on practice. I agree they didn't seem ready to play especially on offense. I hate to say it but it looked to me like they gave up in the Fourth Quarter rather than digging down. The coaches always look bad when the players don't execute. We'll see how it goes. I agree with those who think we maybe need to get back to basics and fundamentals. I'm just happy to see some football and I don't believe we lost to a bad team.

If this Team honestly felt going in that it was ready to compete for a Big 12 title, well.......

........guess again. This offense is flat out terrible. The thin offensive line got exposed today, and outside of the TEs, Purdy has no one he can count on to catch a pass.

Not in my opinion , the saddest I've ever felt about ISU sports is when I learned about Georges broken foot. In FB this is just another loss.

We were unprepared for man to man coverage and our WR's couldn't get open. WR group is not very good imo.

Louisiana would go 7-3/6-4 in the BIG12. Just ask K-State. The speed in Louisiana HS football is insane. That was a genius move.

Honestly I agree. We all should have seen this coming. Granted, I'll admit I had a pretty good time - got together with people for a fun garage watch, kids running around, shotgunned some beers with my new neighbors. I'm not so salty I can't appreciate the opportunity to hang out and have something to look forward to. But this game was pure trash performance, everybody sucked, and while I don't want to see anybody get fired or anything this was a terrible performance.

My take:
1. Purdy did the best he could for **** field conditions, and bad timing. I’m glad he ran some, we need that. His ankle appears to be fine.
2. Offensive line was terrible. I watched Sean Foster get blown past multiple times. He is not and will never be the guy.
3. Purdy couldn’t rely on Kolar’s touch. His other WR’s dropped some really good passes.
4. If our special teams was even remotely mediocre the score is 20-17. Defense was good, but playing prevent defense with a run heavy team is just stupid, and we could have avoided that long TD. So to me, just bad coaching. Those scores are wiped away if people do their job on special teams, and we play the proper defense.
5. Louisiana will finish the season ranked. Texas tech barely beat Houston Baptist, K state lost to Arkansas State, and Kansas got completely wrecked by coastal Carolina.
6. This year already sucks ass, this loss doesn’t even scratch the surface, and isn’t even a top 10 disappointment for me.
