Boat questions

Thinking about buying a boat but have some questions .

i don't currently have a vehicle that can pull a boat and don't know that I really want to buy a truck as a daily driver. Can you buy a slip at Saylorville and just leave it out there all year long? What would it cost? If you go this route could you also skip having a trailer to store?

I've got a boat and we trailer to different lakes for something different to look at. We have an 05 suburban with 100,000 miles on it that pulls the boat. Pulling the boat and tailgating is all I use it for, then I have a work car I drive to work unless the roads are bad in the winter. Then I take the suburban, it's AWD. What kind of boat are you looking for?

You can rent slips and leave the boat in the lake, but you still need a trailer as you can either pull it out and store it for the winter, or they can pull it out and store it for you. No idea on the costs at Sailorville but I have done this in the past on lake mcbride and the cedar river.

As fas as what type, the wife would want a pontoon. I'd probably wnt something with a little more juice. In reality the best choice would probably be a pontoon that can pull a jet ski.

I believe the smallest slip at Saylorville Marina is around $2,100 for the summer (April thru October) ... yes $2,100 that isn't a typo. That gets your a 10 x 25 slip that is uncovered. You can also store your trailer there for the summer and that is another $100. They do have indoor and outdoor storage for the winter but I'm not sure on that cost. If you get a pontoon boat you can get a slip at Big Creek for $650 (might be $750 now) for the summer but I don't believe they have any storage options for trailers as they have a small area for trailers and last time I checked it was already full.

If you go mainly to lakes where you can rent a boat, do that. Save you a ton of time, hassle, and cash.

If you are too damn cheap to do it, then don't do it. Once you own a boat, you immediately invested money and time to keep it working.

We have a pontoon in a slip at Saylorville, the price is correct $2200 +. I will tell you that you will use it more if it is on the water, and you don't have to fight with the wife to launch it. Just borrow a buddies truck to launch and pull out, leave the trailer at the marina and enjoy the water. Just my 2 cents
