Bumping an old thread rather than start a new one..

Anyone else see they are building a Porsche dealership in WDM off of Jordan Creek Parkway and I-80?
I noticed late last year they started building something there and just recently saw the Porsche sign installed
Looked like it was announced last year that Woodhouse is bringing it back to the metro

Can’t wait to buy a few new cars next time I’m back

Totally agree. Compare DSM parking with other cities (Chicago, Minneapolis), and parking downtown is a breeze......and fairly inexpensive.
Compared to Omaha, a lot closer in size, its not great. Old Market, Exsarben and Midtown Crossing are all better parking wise than downtown DM. And the new Mutual of Omaha building going up is adding 2000+ spots that are public on nights and weekends on the west edge of the Old Market.

Depends on what you mean by better. Omaha has gobs of parking. It's not really awesome if you're looking for ideal land use mix.

Parking is not bad...sometimes you just cant park in the immediate vicinity of your location. We overpark as a country because people don't like to walk.
Well my post is almost a decade old and I think there have been some changes. More working from home, the ramp electronic signs that tell you available parking spaces, the Court Ave night life has gotten worse and decreased, and a lot of the nightlife has been spread out. East Village, Western Gateway, Ingersoll, Valley Junction areas have all helped alleviate some of that congestion of downtown as they've become very popular.

Just sticking with the Old Market example, lots of the parking is garages. The ones that are just garages and nothing else fall into the land use mix issue but several are built into apartments/office buildings that are available to public during hours like the Mutual building will be. Those don't waste space. It'd be nice if more places had parking like Power and Light where the garage is underground but that's expensive as hell.

Agree that building a concrete jungle for the sake of parking in downtown areas isn't good.
