I didn't think we did all that bad considering that our starting point guard was playing against someone bigger, faster, quicker, and longer not to mention in his fifth year. Our guards were being harassed far from the basket, our post guys couldn't keep anyone behind them. Jiri did look soft--is he still catching up from his foot injury? Diante did finish some drives, but at the end of the game, we had nobody to go to score.

Turnovers--move towards the ball, don't wait for it. When we get the ball inside, move to an open spot to get the ball back for an open look. Off the ball movement didn't look real good--due to lots of new players in new system against better competition on the road.

Turnovers should improve as the season progresses--more leeway should be given (in the Chizik test) as games are more frequent with less time to work things out.

About what should have been expected.

cardinal colored glasses for garrett

if it wasnt for peterson in 1st half isu would have down by 10. he kept them in the game did u see garrett's shot? how many to's did he have? Vette was the only big in 2nd half who had a pulse. Missed Staigers calm n crisp passing and wesleys active play n rebounding.

I share many of the impressions already posted, but the one that stands out the most to me is how slow we look on defense.

I know Ruffin is lightning quick, but it seemed we were always a step behind on D, guards and frontcourt alike.

The exception being Clark...he was great.

Dunson was better than haluska and peterson combined, would trade those two for him in a sec. On the other hand mcintosh talent is equivalent to peterson and haluska they are not d1 talent espically in a major conference.

When Garrett is in we look like a team with talent, when peterson and haluska is in we look like we have less talent than a missouri valley team

Our five best players are(in no order)

1. Diante Garret
2. Wesley Johnson
3. Rahshon Clark
4. Craig Brackins
5. Jiri Hubalek

I think that by the time the year is over Boozer and Vette will getting more playing time than peterson, haluska, and thompson. I am not sure where CJ will fit in.

McIntosh is not equivalent to Peterson. Peterson is a better player than McIntosh and I'm not sure it's even close. Dodie Dunson was an average player and so is Sean Haluska. These guys are only playing their third D-1 game. I'm sure if you took DD and CM's line from their third game and compared it to BP and SH, it would look similar, if not worse.

Garrett had 2 turnovers and Peterson had 3.

We do need Petey right now. Honestly until Wesley comes back I'd start Garrett at the 1 and Petey at the 2, just so we can utilize Petey's shooting and Garrett's ballhandling.

Petey definitly kept us in the first half, but Garrett was our only sign of a pulse in the second.

Most of my thoughts have already been posted so I won't repeat them.

What the heck is Haluska doing out there? He isn't a defensive stopper and he cannot make a shot to save his life. He is 0-12 from 3 pt land this season and 1-13 in total field goals. Many of his looks have been wide open too.

I'm hoping Jiri gets back to the last 1/2 of the Big 12 season from last year when he took the ball to the hole like a badass. Maybe its because he still isn't 100% but he looks tentative in taking the ball strong to the hole.

Alex Thompson hasn't looked like he knows what he's doing yet. I was expecting a lot more.

Rahshon looks even better both offensively and defensively than last year.

Sean Haluska did nothing except miss shots, turnover the ball and not contribute at all, he probably was at best adequate on the defensive end besides we have no offense unless it is throwing a shot up in the last ten seconds of the shot clock unless diante garrett is in, besides peterson will not be able to play with garrett much when wesley is back. Diante is the key to this team, we will go as far as he can take us. His ability to get to the rack is unbelievable but he has to look for the open guy a little more when he is driving, this is not high school where he can do everything.

Garrett should be starting from here on out. We need him to be the PG to allow Peterson to play the 2. Haluska missed 3 if not 4 wide open looks from 3.

Couldn't agree more. Garrett played great and has that dribble drive that even good defenders can't guard. Once Wes is healthy I see petersen as kind of a non-factor in our line-up

I think Petey should be no less than the first guy off the bench until somebody else proves they can make a three pointer. ISU has made 12 three pointers this year and Petey has made 8 of them.

When Wesley is back, I see him, Garrett and Petersen getting most of the minutes at the guard spots. Probably only something like 5-10 minutes per game for Brister, Boozer and Haluska to split.

If Brackins and Hubalek each play 30 minutes per game, that leaves 20 minutes at the 4 and 5 for CJ, Thompson and Vette. I would guess around 10 minutes each for CJ and Vette, and very little for Thompson.

I just want us to get back to being an NCAA-caliber team quickly. I think that's where ISU hoops belongs year in and year out.

Preseason doesn't decide if we go to the NCAA tourney anyway, its going to be our conference play that ultimately decides that. In preseason we just have to stay consistent, and improve.

Time to apply the "Chizik Test", i.e. was there any improvment from the games last weekend? ISU is very sloppy passing and handling the ball. That is one thing to track as far as game to game improvement, and this area didn't seem much better tonight.

Another issue for me is that ISU is still seems to be weak in the post/power forward position. I hate to say it, but Jiri still looks soft to me. ISU will sink to the bottom of the Big 12 without improved post play and rebounding. This is another thing to track as far as game to game improvement, and I think there might have been regression in this area tonight...

Cut Jiri some slack. Lets see how aggressive you are a few weeks after breaking your foot. Remember, when he first injured it, it was expected that he wouldn't even be ready to play by now. He'll come around, I have no question of that.

Just a couple of things that I would add. In my opinion, the number one reason that we lost the game was that we gave up the baseline repeatedly at the end. Down the stretch, most of their wide open 3s coame after our defense had to colapse on a baseline drive. It also killed our rebounding position when the 3s didn't fall.

The number two reason, was that Bradley pressured the ball out of our point guard's hands. Once that happened, we had no one that could make them pay. That defense wouldn't work if we had a good three guard lineup or a small forward that can break his man down and take him to the hole. I hope Wes can be that man, but ballhandling was really his only weakness last year.

I don't. The guy can shoot...something several of our other of guards can't do.

Amen. Way too many people are just dying to see this guy on the bench just because he came from Kirkwood and is smaller than anyone else on the court.

We lack scoring and as illustrated, he scores.

Did you really just say the someone but Wes is our best player? You can't be serious. I love Diante and think he is going to be a star, but Wes is CLEARLY our best player. And the fact that you would trade Cmac and DD for BP and SH makes me very, very glad you are not our coach.
